We are currently seeking a dynamic, student-centered Art educator to teach Upper and Middle School art and ceramics classes. In partnership with members of the Fine Arts faculty team, this educator and team member will be responsible for the development and implementation of art and ceramics classes, with an emphasis on nurturing a students healthy mindset with regards to creativity and developing artistic skills in multiples styles at different skill levels.

• Actively support the mission of Oak Hall School in all aspects of student and family engagement
• Display a One-School mindset, working across divisions with consideration for consistency and alignment
• Develop a rapport with students that emphasizes the wellness and emotional development of the adolescent child.
• Showcase work as a proficient and active artist willing to collaborate with other fine arts focus areas
• Plan, organize curriculum, and teach Advanced Placement art classes to meet requirements as designated by the College Board, as needed
• Demonstrate flexibility in planning and creatively teaching students with an understanding of different techniques including ceramics (throwing on pottery wheel, sculpture, hand-building), print making, beginning and advanced drawing and painting, and other 2D & 3D creations.
• Must possess extensive knowledge of glazing and firing ceramics and use of Skutt kiln
• Demonstrated ability to communicate concepts in a clear and concise manner to foster an innovative and creative learning environment.
• Plan and execute a balanced art program and organize class time so that instruction, and hands on activities can be accomplished within the allotted time.
• Utilize repertoire of all types of art that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
• Communicate with parents and school staff on individual students progress.
• Plan, organize, and direct visual arts recitalsto showcase the talents of Arts Conservatory students individually, and as part of a broader advancement of the Distinguished Scholars program.
• Collaborate with other members of the Fine Arts Department to plan, organize, and produce sets and backdrops for the annual One School Musical which includes students from Lower, Middle, and Upper School.
• Collaborate with the members of the Fine Arts Department to develop and showcase student work for school-wide special events
• Work collaboratively with the other Fine Arts Faculty to create interdisciplinary units, share resources, and develop opportunities to showcase collaborative Fine Arts efforts
• Assess and document each students progress to meet the school standards, and provide feedback to students and their parents, as needed.
• Effectively incorporate national and state art education standards and benchmarks into a developmentally appropriate, sequential and diverse curriculum
• Instruct, conduct, and arrange material for traditional and non-traditional arts and design students to express themselves through art with a developmentally appropriate and balanced approach.
• Organize planning periods and class time so that preparation, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
• Be a role model of integrity and professionalism.
• Meet regular and predictable attendance requirements, including attending division and other school meetings, professional days, pre- and post- planning days, graduation, and other required events.
• Adhere to School policies as described in the Employee Handbook and other materials.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelors Degree in field required (Art Education; Art).
• Masters degree preferred.
• Extensive experience in ceramics.
• A keen understanding of the social/emotional needs of adolescent-aged students.
• A thoughtful and purposeful demeanor with students is essential.
• A working familiarity with many art styles is essential.
• Must demonstrate a high level of proficiency in instruction of various art techniques with 6-12th grade students
• Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in art instruction for all ability levels.
• Creative art educator willing to think outside the box.
• Experience with and working knowledge of national and state art education benchmarks and standards.
• Be comfortable and adept with the creative and effective use of technology in the learning process.
• Ability to inspire, engage, empower, and educate, and evaluate students with vigor and creativity.
• A history of commitment to professional development and life-long learning.
• The ability to work positively and professionally with students, parents and faculty.
• A high degree of professionalism, collegiality, and personal conduct both in and outside of school.
• Ability, willingness, and judgment to communicate thoroughly, accurately, and concisely with all constituents in a school environment, both verbally and in writing.
• Enthusiasm and commitment to the vision and mission of the school.

• Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

• Works in a classroom environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
• Regularly uses close and distance vision.
• May stand for extended periods of time.
• Works primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment.
• Ability to fully operate kiln safely, and to ensure student safety in and around kiln
• Ability to visually and audibly locate students under their supervision.
• Ability to turn, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, stoop, and squat.
• Ability to actively circulate throughout the diverse campus environment.
• Ability to occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
