What you'll do:
The Rental Department Manager will lead the rental business and help build the structure, processes, and strategy. You will manage the day-to-day rental operation, organize and improve rental systems and processes, oversee equipment utilization and maintenance, and identify opportunities to grow the business. This role will oversee customer rentals, equipment availability and condition, inventory, maintenance coordination, pricing, and customer service while working closely with teams across the location to build a well-organized and profitable rental business.
  • Manage the rental business and establish organized, consistent processes for reservations, contracts, deliveries, returns, billing, and equipment availability.
  • Optimize rental systems and software, ensuring equipment, customer, reservation, and financial data is accurate and used effectively for reporting and decision-making.
  • Coordinate with the yard and other teams to manage equipment deliveries, pickups, staging, and availability.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors and other customers, helping them select the right equipment for their projects and providing a high level of service.
  • Monitor rental revenue, utilization, margins, expenses, and equipment performance to understand what is driving profitability and where improvements are needed.
  • Identify opportunities to grow rental revenue, expand customer relationships, improve utilization, and strengthen the overall rental offering.
  • Oversee the rental fleet, including equipment inspections, maintenance, repairs, readiness, and replacement needs.
  • Evaluate equipment performance and make recommendations on repairing, replacing, adding, or retiring equipment based on business needs and return on investment.
  • Partner with location leadership, sales, yard, accounting, and other teams to improve processes, resolve issues, and support the overall business.
  • Help establish the rental department as a profitable, well-organized business within the location, taking initiative to solve problems and build processes from the ground up.

What you'll bring:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in equipment rental, construction equipment, fleet operations, or a related industry preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to create structure, improve processes, and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to assess basic equipment condition and identify maintenance or repair needs
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of a business area, while collaborating effectively with others
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with a focus on building long-term relationships with contractors and other customers
  • Ability to work across an office, rental counter, yard, warehouse, and outdoor environment
