Job description

Rendering

Job Summary:

Indiana Packers is seeking dedicated and hardworking individuals to join our team to fulfill our Rendering position. A member in the Rendering team is responsible for tending equipment used to render and process animal source material including animal fat, bones, meat scrapes and rendering tallow from fat.

Responsibilities:

  • Completes inspection of equipment to determine if sanitation is adequate to begin rendering process.
  • Assembles rendering equipment including expellers, grinders, pumps, pipes, blades, cooking tanks.
  • Tests equipment to determine proper functioning.
  • Opens valves and start pumps and conveyors to move materials through rendering process.
  • Monitors temperature gauges and rate of flow and condition of materials passing through cookers, expellers, and grinders; adjust valves and rate of flow.
  • Dumps guts, bones, tissue, and other inedible parts into a chute leading to storage containers for cooking tanks for inedible processing.
  • Labels storage containers as "Not for Consumption".
  • Contacts maintenance mechanics for troubleshooting equipment malfunction

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to work from August 2025-February 2026
  • Comfortable working with raw meat/or carcass parts
  • Able to operate or work near mechanical production equipment and/or cutting tools
  • Capable of performing the physical requirements of the position, including repetitive movement of grasping and pinching hands, flexing, and extending arms, bending, twisting, and lifting or exerting a force of at least 35 lbs. while standing on concrete floors and/or platforms for extended periods of time
  • Willing to work in hot environments (100+ degrees)
  • Must be able to work in wet, humid, and odorous environments
  • Must be able to read, write and understand instructions in English effectively
  • Work while wearing all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions on the site including exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud and hearing protection is required. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in cold, hot, and outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust.

Physical Demand:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position lifts heavy objects up to 50 lbs., walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arms and fingers, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina and vision.

This manufacturing position earns a competitive wage of $21.46 per hour for the first shift and $22.46 per hour for the second shift.

This factory position is needed for 8 - 10 hours a day, including Saturdays as needed. First shift hours are from 6:00am - 2:30pm. Second shift hours are from 2:00pm - 10:30pm.
