What is an Architectural Drawing job?

An Architectural Drawing job involves creating technical drawings, blueprints, and plans used in building design and construction. Professionals in this role use computer-aided design (CAD) software and traditional drafting techniques to illustrate floor plans, elevations, sections, and details. These drawings serve as a guide for architects, engineers, and builders to ensure accurate construction. Attention to detail, knowledge of building codes, and strong visualization skills are essential for success in this field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Architectural Drawing position, and why are they important?

To excel in Architectural Drawing, you need a solid understanding of architectural design principles, spatial visualization, and drafting techniques, often supported by a degree in architecture or design. Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM systems is typically expected, along with knowledge of building codes and standards. Attention to detail, creative problem-solving, and effective communication are key soft skills that help you stand out. These skills are crucial to accurately translating architectural concepts into precise, build-ready drawings while collaborating efficiently with project teams.

What are the typical daily responsibilities for someone working in Architectural Drawing?

Professionals in Architectural Drawing spend much of their day creating and revising detailed technical drawings and plans that guide construction and design projects. They frequently collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to interpret concepts and ensure compliance with codes and client specifications. Olson Kundig is a design practice founded on the ideas that buildings can serve as a bridge between nature, culture, and people, and that inspiring surroundings have a positive effect on people's lives. The firm's work can be found across the globe, with projects as wide-ranging as huts to high rises, homes - often for art collectors - to academic, cultural, and civic projects, museums and exhibition design, places of worship, creative production, urban design, and interior design.
We are seeking an Architectural Designer II to support the design, planning, and documentation of projects of moderate size and complexity. • Project Communications and Presentations:
Take on aspects of external project communications and prepare presentations with subconsultants and clients, with support from senior team members.
  • Additional duties and projects:
    As assigned or necessary.
