Job description

Who We Are

Marin Architects is a leading New York-based architecture and design firm recognized for delivering thoughtful, innovative solutions across a wide range of project types-including commercial, mixed-use, residential, hospitality, and institutional developments. With a strong reputation for excellence, we are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant to support our executive team and contribute to the daily operations of our dynamic Midtown Manhattan office.

Who You Are

Marin Architects is seeking an experienced Architectural Designer with strong design ability, practical judgment, and advanced skill in 3D design and visualization. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in SketchUp or an equivalent 3D design/modeling platform and should be able to use that platform as a tool to develop, test, and clearly communicate architectural ideas.

This position is intended for a designer who can move efficiently from early design studies into refined architectural concepts. The candidate must be able to develop thoughtful, buildable design solutions while also creating work that makes a clear and meaningful architectural statement.

The role requires someone who understands not only how to design, but also how a polished design concept transitions into a coordinated architectural construction set. While the primary focus of the role is design, the candidate must have a working understanding of construction documents, detailing, coordination, and the general process required to bring a project from concept through filing and construction documentation.

What You'll Do
  • Develop architectural design concepts, massing studies, interior studies, facade concepts, and presentation views using SketchUp or an equivalent 3D design/modeling platform.
  • Work directly with principals and project teams to refine design direction from concept through design development.
  • Prepare clear design studies, diagrams, views, and visual material that communicate the intent of the project.
  • Balance creativity with practical judgment, constructability, code awareness, and the realities of project execution.
  • Assist in translating approved design concepts into information that can be coordinated with a construction document team.
  • Contribute to the organization and development of architectural drawing sets once the design direction has been established.
What You Bring
  • The candidate should have direct experience preparing, submitting, tracking, and coordinating applications with the New York City Department of Buildings, the Fire Department of New York, and other agencies having jurisdiction over construction approvals.
  • This position requires someone who can manage multiple filings at the same time, follow applications from initial submission through approval, assist with permits, coordinate responses to objections, and help move projects toward sign off, Letters of Completion, Temporary Certificates of Occupancy, or final Certificates of Occupancy.
  • The ideal candidate should have several years of New York City expediting experience, strong working knowledge of DOB BIS and DOB NOW, familiarity with DOB filing requirements and procedures, and the ability to communicate clearly with City agencies, architects, consultants, contractors, and clients. A current expediting license or DOB Filing Representative registration is required. Experience with Class 1 or Class 2 filing representative work is preferred.

  • Experience with residential, mixed-use, commercial, retail, hospitality, institutional, or adaptive reuse projects.
  • Ability to work quickly through multiple design options while maintaining a strong architectural direction.
  • Comfort moving between conceptual design, presentation material, design development, and construction-document coordination.
  • Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, Lumion, Enscape, or other architectural design and documentation platforms is helpful.
Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a designer who is both creative and practical - someone who can produce strong architectural ideas while understanding how those ideas ultimately become real, buildable projects. The right candidate should have the confidence to make a meaningful design statement, but also the discipline to work within the technical and practical framework required to complete architectural work professionally.

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
    • Starting at $55,00-$75,000 annually
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
