What is an architectural associate?

Architectural Associates are early-career professionals who support architects in designing, planning, and overseeing the construction of buildings and structures. They typically assist with drafting plans, creating 3D models, conducting research, and preparing project documentation. While they often have a degree in architecture or a related field, they may still be working toward licensure. Architectural Associates gain practical experience under the supervision of licensed architects, helping them develop the skills necessary to advance in the field. Their role is crucial for ensuring projects meet design standards, codes, and client needs.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an architectural associate?

To thrive as an Architectural Associate, you need a solid understanding of architectural design principles, drafting, and building codes, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in architecture or a related field. Proficiency with tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite is essential, and LEED accreditation or other certifications can be advantageous. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams. These skills and qualifications ensure you can contribute to innovative, compliant designs and successful project delivery.

How does an architectural associate collaborate with senior architects and other team members during a project?

As an Architectural Associate, you will work closely with senior architects, engineers, and other design professionals throughout all phases of a project. Your responsibilities often include preparing drawings, conducting research, and attending project meetings to ensure that designs meet client requirements and regulatory standards. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as you’ll be expected to provide input, incorporate feedback, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders to keep projects on track. This collaborative environment provides valuable learning opportunities and helps you build relationships that are important for career advancement in the field.

What is the difference between Architectural Associate vs Architectural Designer?

Job description

Experience Design Senior Associate

Contribute to innovative experience design, blending user needs with business goals in the dynamic environment of financial services.

As an Experience Design Senior Associate in Design & AI Strategy team you will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience of our products and services by leveraging your advanced knowledge of experience design principles. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, create innovative, inclusive, and accessible solutions that cater to a diverse range of users. As a core contributor, align user needs with business goals. Your strong understanding of the financial services industry and JPMorgan Chase's IT systems will contribute to the continuous improvement of our offerings, navigating complex problems and driving strategic thinking. Your impact will be significant in the design, architecture, and functionality of our products, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for our employees and customers.

Partner with the AI Design Strategy team to deliver AI enablement programs, create, maintain and evolve workforce tools, and support the PXT organization in adopting AI-powered workflows. You will help bring UX Design Thinking to the systems people use to learn, evaluate, and apply AI in their day-to-day work. This includes co-owning AI-related office hours and enablement sessions and shaping the visual design and information architecture for workforce tools.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support ideation and discovery across AI initiatives through rapid prototyping, visual and interaction design, information architecture, and lightweight coding proofs of concept using tools such as VS Code, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and similar AI-assisted workflows.
  • Perform front-end design and development on internal web applications, interactive pages, and lightweight prototypes using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; support prototype-to-tool iteration, UI polish, and related deployment needs.
  • Evaluate internal and external AI tools across practitioner-relevant tasks; document strengths, limitations, use cases, and risks; and translate findings into practical guidance, demos, evaluation results, or recommendations the organization can use.
  • Own and evolve UI design and information architecture for custom-built tools— including wireframes, UI mockups, site structure, navigation, and content hierarchy. This includes front-end design and development on Confluence-hosted SPAs (HTML / CSS / JS), support deployments (file management, site registry, UI polish), and use VS Code with GitHub Copilot to prototype, iterate, and help build new workforce tools.
  • Track adoption analytics, maintain a demand / request log, participate in the Design Strategy AI Sync and related forums, and escalate complex requests (governance, architecture, controls) to the appropriate lead.
  • Help design and maintain self-paced learning, support, and onboarding mechanisms for existing and new tooling, including walkthroughs, videos, guides, slide decks, one-pagers, demo environments, FAQs, quick-reference content, reusable answers, and self-service content for Knowledge Base authors.
  • Onboard users to AI workforce tools end-to-end — grant access, walk through the self-service creation flow, verify first completion, and conduct quality reviews, completeness, standards alignment.
  • Co-lead AI-related office hours, workshops, and enablement sessions (AI Primer, KB creation, LLM Suite / M365 Copilot best practices), and serve as first point of contact for access, setup, troubleshooting, and general guidance across internal tools and AI initiatives.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years in UX design or information architecture within a large enterprise or similarly complex environment— supported by a portfolio showing UI / interaction design, information architecture, or internal product design work.
  • Strong foundation in user experience and service design (journey mapping, systems thinking), with the ability to translate business and user needs into AI-enabled concepts, flows, and solution ideas.
  • Practical experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, including the ability to build, update, and polish web applications, interactive pages, or lightweight prototypes using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar; hands-on experience with Confluence (page creation, macros, embedded content, site structure), Figma, and Microsoft 365.
  • Practitioner-level fluency with LLM-based tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, LLM Suite, or similar; understands prompting, knowledge bases, AI-assisted workflows, reusable guidance patterns, and the practical limitations of AI tools in enterprise settings.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills — able to present to groups, lead training sessions, create clear instructional content, and influence across levels while balancing structured thinking, experimentation, and rapid iteration.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Experience at JPMC or a comparable financial services firm, enterprise technology, or regulated environment designing or delivering AI-powered internal tools, resource sites, knowledge systems, or adoption content — with an understanding of controls, compliance culture, and internal tooling landscape.
  • Experience leading or facilitating training sessions, workshops, or office hours, and driving change management or organizational transformation initiatives with measurable adoption outcomes.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-grade design systems, React / Vite applications, accessibility standards (WCAG), and comfort working with technical partners (APIs, data models, AI/ML systems) to translate between technical and non-technical audiences.
