Job description

Civil Project Engineer
Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc. has full-time opportunity for a Civil Project Engineer (Eng V) with5-10 years of experience and will be a registered Professional Engineer for our Houston West office and within our Public Works Practice
Location: Houston West, Texas
Employment Type: 40 FT Hours
Compensation Type: Salary
Registration(s): Registered Professional Engineer (PE License) Required
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE)
Duties:
  • Serve as Civil Engineer in the development of design schematics, construction plans, specifications and estimates.
  • Coordinate with EITs, designers and drafters.
  • Review shop drawings, perform field observations, and facilitate the construction administration.
  • Support project proposals, scopes, budgets, and manage execution and tracking of projects.
  • Complete projects within client specifications, budgets and schedules.
  • Coordinate online meetings, preparation of meeting agendas, and distribution of meeting.
  • Will work on all types of projects, but the focus will be on Public Works projects. This will include design development from concept design phase through completion of construction documents.
  • The site development will include but not be limited to grading, floodplain mitigation, drainage, drainage detention, paving, and utilities. The individual will be coordinating with other disciplines within HZI and well as sub-consultants including Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, etc. throughout the design phase.
  • The individual will also be coordinating with and providing direction to engineers-in-training, CADD technicians, and project support staff to prepare the project documents (drawings and technical specifications) for permitting and bidding.
  • The individual will provide construction administration support for such activities as contractor submittal reviews, contractor requests for information, review of contractor monthly invoices and provide recommendations for invoice approvals, participation in construction progress meetings, occasional site visits as necessary.
  • The individual will also provide support for the development of scopes of work, labor our estimates, and project scheduling for new projects. On occasion as directed, individual will communicate directly with clients.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
  • 5+ years of civil engineering design experience in Public Works.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Excel and Word software.
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to present in a meeting.
  • Ability to design printed and digital engineering documents.
  • Ability to write clearly to communicate technical issues and design ideas.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
