Job description

Position Overview

Woolpert is seeking an  Transportation Bridge Engineer  to join our dynamic Transportation Design team in our Houston, TX office. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of transportation infrastructure projects across multiple states and clients, with a primary focus on transportation structures such as bridges, culverts, sign structures, and retaining walls in Texas.Our team is composed of experienced professionals who are passionate about mentoring early-career engineers, providing hands-on training, and developing the technical and professional skills needed for long-term success. This role offers exposure to diverse engineering practices and project types.

Working alongside industry experts, you'll gain valuable experience in structural analysis, design standards, and project delivery, while contributing to impactful infrastructure improvements. With continued team growth expected, this position offers strong potential for career advancement.

What You Will Do

  • Work under the guidance of Licensed Professional Engineers on transportation structures projects.
  • Assist in the analysis and design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and related structural components.
  • Support preparation of plans, specifications, and engineering calculations in accordance with AASHTO and state DOT standards.
  • Utilize engineering software (e.g., MicroStation, OpenRoads, or structural analysis tools) to support design and drafting tasks.
  • Aid in the development of 3D models and structural layouts for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with quantity take-offs, cost estimating, and construction documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on transportation projects including roadway, geotechnical, and hydrological analysis.
  • Provide general project support across multiple assignments as needed.

 

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis preferred) from an ABET/EAC-accredited program.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification required or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • 1-3 years of experience in transportation structures or structural design preferred.
  • Familiarity with TxDOT DM-4 and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications is a plus.
  • Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), Open Bridge or Civil 3D is beneficial but not required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively across teams.
  • Eagerness to learn, grow, and develop technical expertise in transportation structures engineering.
