What are Architect Designers?

Architect Designers are professionals who plan, design, and oversee the construction of buildings and other structures. They combine creativity with technical knowledge to create functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing spaces. Their responsibilities often include consulting with clients, preparing design drawings and models, ensuring compliance with building codes, and coordinating with engineers and contractors throughout the construction process. Architect Designers typically have a degree in architecture and are licensed to practice in their region.

How does an Architect Designer typically collaborate with other professionals during a project?

Architect Designers work closely with a range of professionals—including engineers, contractors, interior designers, and clients—throughout the lifecycle of a project. Effective communication is essential, as they must coordinate design intent, address technical constraints, and ensure regulatory compliance. Regular meetings and site visits help align all stakeholders, resolve challenges, and keep the project on track. This collaborative environment fosters creative problem-solving and ensures the final design meets both aesthetic and functional requirements.

What is the difference between Architect Designer vs Interior Designer?

AspectArchitect DesignerInterior Designer

Industry UsageArchitectural firms, construction projectsInterior design firms, renovation projects

Architect Designers primarily focus on designing entire buildings, requiring architectural credentials and licensing. Interior Designers concentrate on interior spaces, emphasizing aesthetics and functionality. While both roles involve design skills, their scope and credentials differ, making each specialized in distinct aspects of the built environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Architect Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Architect Designer, you need strong design principles, spatial awareness, and a relevant architecture degree—often supported by licensure depending on the region. Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and 3D modeling tools, along with knowledge of building codes and sustainability standards, is typically required. Creativity, problem-solving, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering innovative, functional, and compliant architectural solutions that meet client and regulatory expectations.

Job description

Designer / Architect - Residential Development

Alpharetta, GA | Full-Time

About the Company

We are a vertically integrated real estate development and construction platform focused on delivering high-quality residential and housing projects across multiple markets. Our team is collaborative, entrepreneurial, and committed to excellence in design, construction, and execution.

We value strong partnerships, accountability, and thoughtful development practices that create lasting impact in the communities we serve.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Designer / Architect to serve as an internal design lead and owner’s representative throughout the design process.

You will not be responsible for creating full construction drawing sets. Instead, you will collaborate closely with third-party architects and consultants - reviewing plans, marking up drawings, guiding design decisions, helping manage selections, and ensuring projects align with company standards, budget, and constructability goals.

This role is ideal for someone with an architectural or design background who enjoys the creative and strategic side of development.

What You’ll Do

Design Oversight & Coordination

  • Review and mark up architectural drawings from outside architecture firms
  • Ensure layouts, elevations, and design details align with project goals and design standards
  • Participate in design meetings and coordinate with architects, consultants, and internal stakeholders

Design Development

  • Help guide projects through schematic design, design development, and construction document phases
  • Collaborate on space planning, unit layouts, exterior aesthetics, and overall functionality
  • Assist in identifying design improvements and solving issues proactively

Finish & Material Selections

  • Support or lead interior and exterior finish selections
  • Balance aesthetics, durability, constructability, and budget considerations
  • Help maintain consistency across the project portfolio

Value Engineering & Constructability

  • Work alongside development and construction teams to optimize design solutions
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs without sacrificing quality

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with development, construction, and project management teams
  • Serve as an internal design resource throughout the lifecycle of each project

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Design, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in architecture, design, or design coordination
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings
  • Experience collaborating with architects, consultants, and construction teams
  • Strong design eye with understanding of residential, multifamily, or hospitality projects
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive communicator
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools preferred

Preferred

  • Multifamily or residential project experience
  • Architecture degree
  • Experience in a developer, owner’s rep, or construction environment

Why Join Us?

  • High-impact role with visibility across projects and leadership
  • Opportunity to influence design without traditional architecture firm burnout
  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial team environment
  • Career growth within a vertically integrated development platform
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary, commensurate with experience
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid time off and holidays

Location

This role is based full-time in Alpharetta, GA.
