What is an Architect Captain?

An Architect Captain is a senior-level architectural professional who leads and coordinates the design and production of construction documents for architectural projects. They act as project managers, overseeing teams of architects and designers, ensuring that projects meet client requirements, local codes, and industry standards. Architect Captains work closely with clients, consultants, and contractors throughout all phases of a project, from initial concept through construction administration. Their role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and effective communication skills to deliver successful projects on time and within budget.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Architect Captain?

To thrive as an Architect Captain, you need a solid background in architectural design, project management, and a professional degree in architecture, often with licensure as a registered architect. Proficiency in CAD software like AutoCAD, Revit, and project management tools, along with knowledge of building codes and standards, is typically required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help guide teams and manage stakeholders effectively. These skills are crucial for delivering successful projects on time and within budget while ensuring compliance and design excellence.

How does an Architect Captain typically collaborate with other professionals during a project?

An Architect Captain often serves as the primary liaison between the design team, consultants, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle. This role involves coordinating architectural drawings, ensuring design intent is maintained, and facilitating communication to resolve technical or construction issues. Regular meetings, detailed documentation, and proactive problem-solving are crucial, as the Architect Captain helps align the vision of the client with the practicalities of engineering and construction teams. Effective collaboration ensures projects stay on schedule and meet both aesthetic and functional requirements.

Job description

Senior Job Captain

Full-Time | On-Site | Lake Forest, Southern California

Salary: $80,000–$110,000 annually (based on experience and qualifications)

Location: Lake Forest, Southern California

Type: Full-Time, On-Site

Bring Precision and Leadership to Projects That Shape Southern California.

Why This Role

KSP Studio is looking for a Senior Job Captain who takes pride in getting the details right. This is a hands-on leadership role — you'll drive projects from design through construction, keep consultants and teams aligned, and make sure every set of drawings reflects the design intent with precision.

If you're a technically sharp Revit and CAD expert who wants real ownership over production, not just a seat producing documents, we want to talk to you.

What You'll Own

  • Lead the preparation, coordination, and production of construction documents
  • Partner with project managers, architects, and consultants to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with project goals
  • Review and coordinate consultant drawings — structural, MEP, civil, and more — for consistency
  • Provide technical guidance and quality control across project teams
  • Conduct building code research under PM/PA direction and ensure adherence to all applicable codes and regulations
  • Lead the permitting process across multiple city jurisdictions

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of architectural experience, including 3+ years as a Job Captain or Senior Job Captain
  • Required proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; experience with other design tools is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, materials, and construction methods
  • Sharp organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to lead multiple projects and meet deadlines with limited supervision
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or related field
  • Experience with commercial, institutional, or mixed-use projects preferred; architectural licensure (or progress toward it) is a plus

What You'll Get

  • Competitive salary ($80,000–$110,000, based on experience)
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • A collaborative, design-driven culture that values precision and leadership
  • Stability with real room to grow as we expand our project portfolio
  • A team that trusts you to own your projects, not just execute someone else's checklist
