What is ArchestrA?

ArchestrA is a software architecture developed by AVEVA (formerly Wonderware) that provides a unified platform for industrial automation and information solutions. It enables the integration and management of diverse systems, devices, and data sources in manufacturing and process environments. ArchestrA serves as the backbone for products like AVEVA System Platform, offering scalable, flexible, and object-oriented solutions for supervisory control, data acquisition (SCADA), and human-machine interface (HMI) applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ArchestrA developer?

To thrive as an ArchestrA Developer, you need a solid background in industrial automation, SCADA systems, and a degree in engineering or computer science. Familiarity with Wonderware System Platform, ArchestrA IDE, PLC programming, and relevant certifications like Wonderware Certified Developer are typically required. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with teams and clients. These abilities ensure efficient design, integration, and maintenance of reliable industrial automation solutions that meet complex operational needs.

What are some common challenges faced by ArchestrA developers when integrating with legacy industrial systems?

Archestra developers often encounter challenges when integrating the platform with older industrial systems, such as compatibility issues with outdated hardware or proprietary protocols. These systems may lack modern connectivity options, requiring custom scripting or middleware to enable communication with Archestra. Successful integration typically involves thorough testing, close collaboration with IT and engineering teams, and a strong understanding of both Archestra’s capabilities and the legacy system’s limitations. Overcoming these challenges can provide significant value by enabling real-time data visibility and operational improvements.
