Job description

Commercial Litigation Associate Attorney
Location: Seattle, WA

Direct Counsel is seeking a Commercial Litigation Associate Attorney to join a nationally recognized Am Law firmwith a highly regarded litigation practice in Seattle. This opportunity is ideal for a midlevel attorney with 2–4 years of commercial litigation experience who is looking to take on meaningful responsibility, work directly with clients, and gain hands-on experience handling sophisticated litigation matters across a wide range of industries.

The successful candidate will play an integral role in all phases of complex commercial litigation, working alongside experienced litigators in state and federal courts, as well as arbitration and alternative dispute resolution proceedings. This position offers significant client exposure, strong mentorship, and excellent long-term career development.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and support all phases of complex commercial litigation from case inception through resolution.
  • Conduct factual investigations, legal research, and develop litigation strategies.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, memoranda, and other substantive legal filings.
  • Manage all aspects of discovery, including written discovery, document production, e-discovery, and document review.
  • Conduct and defend depositions and prepare witnesses for testimony.
  • Assist with hearings, trial preparation, and appellate briefing as needed.
  • Collaborate with partners and clients to develop practical, business-focused litigation strategies.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, courts, experts, and litigation support teams.
  • Supervise and mentor junior associates, paralegals, and litigation support staff as appropriate.
  • Participate in business development initiatives, client relationship management, and firm-wide professional activities.
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • 2–4 years of commercial litigation experience in a law firm, judicial clerkship, or comparable legal environment.
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Experience handling discovery, drafting dispositive motions, and appearing in court.
  • Familiarity with e-discovery platforms and complex document management.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
  • Strong academic credentials and a commitment to delivering exceptional client service.
  • Admission to the Washington Bar, or the ability to obtain admission promptly through reciprocity or waiver.
