Job description

A premier national labor and employment law firm is seeking a highly motivated Traditional Labor Associate to join its Portland office. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney passionate about labor law to work alongside respected partners, handle a variety of complex matters, and develop specialized expertise in collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, and unfair labor practice litigation. They are looking for a proactive, confident attorney who thrives in a collaborative environment and is eager to work directly with clients on high-impact cases.
Traditional Labor Associate Responsibilities
  • Represent employers in traditional labor matters, including collective bargaining and contract administration
  • Handle grievance arbitration proceedings and represent clients before the National Labor Relations Board
  • Draft and respond to discovery, initial pleadings, and dispositive motions
  • Take and defend depositions and argue motions before courts and administrative agencies
  • Collaborate directly with clients to navigate day-to-day labor and employment challenges, including drafting and revising employee handbooks and conducting workplace training
  • Work with multiple partners and manage a diverse caseload under the firm's free-market assignment system

Traditional Labor Associate Requirements
  • 2-5 years of traditional labor law experience
  • Experience with collective bargaining and contract administration, including grievance arbitration
  • Experience defending and prosecuting unfair labor practice charges before the NLRB is preferred
  • Bar admission in Oregon required
  • Excellent academic credentials and strong writing and analytical skills
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Team-oriented with a self-starter mindset and a commitment to exceptional client service
