Traditional Labor Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Traditional Labor Associate Attorney with 2–5 years of experience to join a highly successful labor practice in Portland. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney to work closely with experienced labor attorneys, develop meaningful client relationships, and play an important role in the continued growth of the practice.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have experience in traditional labor matters, including collective bargaining, contract administration, and grievance arbitration. Experience prosecuting or defending unfair labor practice charges before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is preferred. Candidates with some employment litigation experience will also be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on traditional labor and labor relations matters.

  • Assist with collective bargaining and contract administration.

  • Handle grievance arbitration matters.

  • Prosecute and defend unfair labor practice charges before the NLRB.

  • Advise clients regarding labor relations strategies and union-related issues.

  • Assist with employment litigation matters as appropriate.

  • Conduct legal research and develop effective strategies for complex labor matters.

  • Draft pleadings, briefs, correspondence, and other legal documents.

  • Work closely with experienced labor attorneys and clients.

  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships.

  • Manage multiple projects and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Contribute to the continued growth and development of the labor practice.

Qualifications
  • 2–5 years of traditional labor experience.

  • Experience with collective bargaining and contract administration.

  • Grievance arbitration experience.

  • NLRB unfair labor practice experience preferred.

  • Employment litigation experience will be considered.

  • Excellent academic credentials.

  • Strong legal writing and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Commitment to teamwork, professional growth, and exceptional client service.

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Admission to the Oregon Bar required.
