The Department of World Languages & Cultures at NC State provides students with a broad and intimate understanding of the rich and varied cultures of our globe-understanding that is built on solid competence of spoken and written skills in the language(s) you choose.

At the undergraduate level, the Department offers students the opportunity to major in the following concentrations leading to the B.A. degree: Arabic, Asian Languages (Chinese, Japanese & Hindi/Urdu), French, German Studies, and Spanish. Students who are eager to make teaching their career can pursue the B.A. Degree in French, German, Spanish or Chinese Education. We also offer minors in the following: Arabic (through Middle Eastern Studies), Chinese, Classics (Greek and Latin), French, German Studies, Hindi/Urdu, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and World Literacy. In addition, we teach classes in Persian and English as a Second Language.
At the graduate level, we have an M.A. program in World Languages & Cultures with three separate concentrations: French and Spanish, both incorporating literature, linguistics, and culture courses. We also have an M.A. concentration in TESOL.
To provide students with more possibilities for languages or levels that may not be taught at NC State, we have developed an inter-institutional collaboration with other schools in the UNC System through a system-wide Language Exchange, so that we may provide greater language opportunities for our students.

Essential Job Duties
The successful candidate (s) will teach undergraduate courses in a specific discipline in World Languages & Cultures according to departmental need and employee knowledge, skills and ability.
Courses may be taught in any of the languages for the classes that we offer. Appointments may be available part time for Summer 2024 and/or 2024-2025 Academic Year, all with the possibility of renewal.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Lecturer: Master's degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent education and/or professional experience,
    • Bachelor's degree plus 18 graduate credit hours will also be considered for Lecturer.
  • Assistant Teaching Professor: PhD is necessary for rank

Degrees/credits must be received by start date.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Instruction experience and proof of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level are preferred.
