Job description

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform, adhere to, and implement all Herschend Enterprises' Core Values and Newport Aquarium Guest Experience Standards, Policies and Procedures, and Safety Protocols to ensure safe and efficient food and beverage operation.
  • Always maintain a positive attitude and appearance.
  • Approach guests in a friendly manner to help and provide information regarding Newport Aquarium.
  • Arrive on time and ready to work all scheduled shifts.
  • Always keep safety as a number one priority while working at Newport Aquarium.
  • Understand policies and procedures relating to the overall functions of the Food and Beverage department.
  • Work with other team members/departments of Newport Aquarium to ensure effective communication is always implemented
  • Maintain knowledge of activities, aquatic life, and Newport Aquarium special events/promotions to properly notify and inform guests.
  • Must be self-motivated to work independently, as well as disciplined and reliable.
  • Always maintain appropriate guest and team member relations, ensuring guest and team satisfaction.
  • Demonstrates strong guest service and interpersonal skills.
  • Set up stations and collect all necessary supplies to prepare menus for guest service operations.
  • Daily ensure that:
    • All hosts are fully knowledgeable on location and the functions of their position; if not, inform the Food and Beverage Manager immediately.
    • Prepare a variety of foods including meat, seafood, poultry, vegetable and cold food items, and hygienic kitchen and café upkeep.
    • Participate in the basic functions of the Food and Beverage department including guest transactions, preparing food, and cleaning the lobby/café.
    • Cover, date and correctly store all food prep items. Taking accurate inventory and ensuring food waste is properly documented. Notify Food and Beverage Management Team in advance of inventory shortages.
    • Use food preparation tools and kitchen equipment in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
    • Always maintain an organized and sanitized work area.
    • Constantly use safe and hygienic food handling practice.
    • Opening and closing procedures are appropriately implemented for all kitchen stations.
    • Perform other related duties or projects as assigned by the Food and Beverage Management Team.
  • This is primarily a day shift position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be 18 yeas old or older
  • Previous Food and Beverage experience preferred.
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays and evenings.
  • Must know and follow sanitary food handling procedures.
  • Friendly, outgoing and proactive approach to all aspects of position.
  • Ability to learn all facets of the Food and Beverage operations.
  • Ability to work effectively with all members of the team and always maintain a proper attitude.
  • Must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check.
  • Ability to remain on your feet for long periods, climb stairs, bend and stoop.
  • Physical strength, including the ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Note: Position will involve exposure to nut allergens, inclement weather, dust, potentially dangerous and unpredictable animal species, and potentially dangerous machinery, restraint devices and toxic chemicals and/or drugs. Occasional use of protective clothing or equipment is required e.g. goggles, mask, gloves, and gowns.
