What is an apprentice?

An apprentice is a person who is learning a trade or skill through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction. Job description

Route Service Apprentice

Location: Faribault
Department: Service
Reports to: District Manager
Pay: $22–$24/hour
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

About the Role

The Route Service Apprentice role is where many of our team members start their careers at CITY—it’s your entry point into the Service team and a great opportunity to learn the business from the ground up.

In this role, you’ll train alongside experienced Route Service Representatives, gaining hands-on exposure to different routes, customers, and ways of working. You’ll learn what success looks like by observing multiple team members and building relationships with mentors who will support your development.

After your initial training, you’ll step in to support routes as needed—covering vacations, assisting with new accounts, and helping ensure smooth day-to-day operations. The apprenticeship typically lasts 6 to 12 months, with the goal of preparing you to take on your own route as a Route Service Representative when an opportunity becomes available.

What You’ll Do
  • Support and fill in across multiple routes (up to 17) as needed

  • Deliver and pick up products from customers in a timely and professional manner

  • Load and unload the delivery truck with clean and soiled laundry

  • Provide excellent customer service and build positive relationships

  • Help maintain route efficiency, organization, and safety

  • Learn product knowledge, inventory handling, and service processes

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the truck and customer accounts

  • Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and leadership

  • Report any truck maintenance or service concerns promptly

What We’re Looking For
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • At least 25 years old

  • Requires consistent and reliable attendance

  • 1–2 years of customer service or related experience preferred

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Willingness to learn and grow within the company

Physical & Work Requirements

This is a hands-on, active role that combines driving, customer interaction, and physical work throughout the day.

  • Drive a commercial vehicle for extended periods (up to 10 hours/day)

  • Make 30–50 stops per day

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 60 lbs

  • Regular walking, bending, reaching, and loading/unloading products

  • Work both independently and in customer-facing environments

  • Continuously, to handle laundry, door handles, mats, hangers, bags, pen and paper, and to drive.

Growth Opportunity

This role is designed as a pathway to becoming a Route Service Representative, where you’ll manage your own route and customer relationships. If you’re motivated, reliable, and eager to grow, this position can be the start of a long-term career with CITY.
