Summary of position:
Assist in rendering cost-efficient repair and maintenance service to vehicles owned/leased by the Berks County Intermediate Unit.
Job Responsibilities (see attached job description for additional details):
  • Assist in repairing, inspecting, and servicing BCIU vehicles, such duties to include, but not limited to, routine maintenance such as checking heaters, fluid levels, tires - pressure and wear, and daily winter starting of vehicles.
  • Perform minor repairs to BCIU vehicles and equipment owned or leased such duties to include, but not limited to, lubrication, oil and filter changes, brake repairs, changing tires, replacing light lenses, and cleaning heater filters.
  • Prepare vehicles for trade-ins by removing cameras, radios, GPS units, and decals.
  • Stock inventory and keep shops clean and organized.
  • Paint bumpers, wheels, and mirror brackets on vehicles as directed.
  • Maintain time and/or work orders on a timely basis for proper vehicle accounting.
  • Assist in snow removal and facility cleanup.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma with mechanical/electrical training.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Demonstrated ability to repair and maintain diesel-operated vehicles preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply initiative, sound judgement, and mechanical skills with minimal supervision relative to vehicle repair and maintenance work.
  • Ability to successfully complete essential function screening.
  • Ability to obtain a Pennsylvania Class B Commercial driver's license with school bus driver's endorsement when eligible.
  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain a valid Pennsylvania State Inspection License for school buses, when eligible.

Schedule:
Full-time, 40 hours/week, 12 months/year
Salary:
Starting at $20.46/hour. Established by the Intermediate Unit Board of Directors per the Compensation and Benefits Plan for Technology and Support Services staff, SRI TVMA.
