Operations– Apprentice/Kitchen Specialist

HOOVER CITY SCHOOLS

JOB GOAL: To assist in maintaining District facilities and structures by providing excellent specialized maintenance services

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years' experience in a similar role preferred
  • Ability to possess and maintain appropriate State or National card, certification, or licensure for the assigned trade or skill area within two (2) years or at the end of the required apprenticeship period that is required for proper licensing needed for the specific trade/position
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Meet Hoover City Schools insurable driver requirements
  • Demonstrated general knowledge and skill using standard tools, materials, methods, and practices of the assigned trade or skill area
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the specific trades
  • Ability to read, interpret and/or follow plans, directions, and specifications
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to make estimates of time and material needed for efficient project completion
  • Ability to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders, and heights
  • Ability to engage in prolonged sitting or standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching
  • Strength and agility to lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to exert up to seventy-five (75) pounds of force
  • Ability to work in locations involving heights or confined spaces
  • Ability and willingness to work indoors and outdoors year-round in noisy, crowded environments, in various temperatures, and weather conditions
  • Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays if necessary
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
  • Such Alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal and local law and the Board may require

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
  2. Under the direct training, supervision, and direction of a qualified and experienced Kitchen Specialist the apprentice:
  1. Constructs, maintains, services, inspects, and/or repairs District structures as assigned
  2. Maintains and repairs items or systems in assigned skill or trade area; performs inspections, diagnoses problems, and executes services as needed
  3. Estimates materials and resources necessary for completion of jobs
  4. Completes work order assignments in a timely manner without close supervision; completes all projects in compliance with trade standards
  5. Prioritizes tasks and uses time wisely
  6. Uses problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and effective interpersonal skills to supervise other designated maintenance personnel when assigned
  7. Engages in work-related training to increase knowledge and skills as directed and/or for advancement
  8. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters
  9. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility
  10. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel
  11. Responds to inquiries, requests, and constructive feedback in a timely and positive manner
  12. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner
  13. Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system
  1. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures
  2. Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws
  3. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
