The Building Maintenance Technician I is responsible for safely and efficiently performing maintenance, repair, and preventive care of all systems, structures, and equipment throughout State Farm Arena. This role supports the Building Operations team in ensuring the facility operates at peak performance, reliability, and safety at all times. Success in this role means a well-maintained arena that delivers a seamless, world-class experience for every guest and event.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities (55%)
  • Performs routine and corrective maintenance and repair on building systems, structures, and equipment, and structural components, ensuring proper operation and reliability.

  • Conducts regular inspections of assigned equipment and systems, identifying deficiencies and completing work orders accurately and on time.

  • Executes skilled trades tasks including metal stud framing, drywall hanging and finishing, drop ceiling grid and tile installation, floor/wall tile replacement, and welding (GMAW/MIG, GTAW/TIG, plasma cutting, acetylene torch cutting).

  • Follows established work priorities based on component status, system criticality, and submitted work request forms to ensure timely resolution of maintenance needs.

  • Ensures all equipment is properly tagged and secured prior to performing any maintenance or repair work in compliance with safety protocols.

Secondary Responsibilities (25%)
  • Supports the development and implementation of an effective preventive maintenance program in coordination with the Building Maintenance Lead.

  • Maintains accurate records, schedules, and charts to ensure timely preventive maintenance and repair of all assigned components and systems.

  • Monitors operations and maintenance (O&M) work to verify correct procedures are followed, providing hands-on assistance as needed.

  • Assists in preparing purchase orders for materials, tools, equipment, spare parts, and supplies to support ongoing maintenance operations.

Responsibilities (15%)
  • Conducts safety audits to identify deficiencies and unsafe practices, escalating issues requiring immediate correction to maintain a safe working environment in compliance with OSHA guidelines.

  • Reads and interprets operational manuals, technical documents, and manufacturer specifications to support accurate maintenance and repair work.

  • Communicates with manufacturer representatives, as directed, to exchange information regarding the operation, maintenance, and repair of existing or new systems and components.

  • Completes timesheets and all required documentation accurately and thoroughly to support departmental reporting and compliance.

Additional Responsibilities (5%)
  • Assists in assessing work difficulty and personnel requirements for the maintenance department as directed by leadership.

  • Provides cross-functional support during high-demand event days, including surge coverage across the facility and grounds.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; 2 years of trade school or apprenticeship program experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of commercial building systems, structures, tools, test instruments, and proper maintenance and repair procedures.

  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment (GMAW/MIG, GTAW/TIG, plasma cutting, acetylene torch cutting).

  • Ability to work at elevated heights up to 125 feet; must be comfortable with heights.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the facility.

  • Must be available for on-call duty, flexible scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to accurately complete work orders, timesheets, and other required documentation.

  • Basic computer skills required.

  • Self-starter with strong teamwork and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

  • Experience in a sports, entertainment, or large-scale commercial facility environment.

  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or work order platforms.

  • Knowledge of applicable building codes and safety regulations.
