What is an apprentice solid waste?

Apprentice Solid Waste workers are individuals who are in the early stages of training to become solid waste professionals. They typically assist with the collection, sorting, and disposal of garbage, recyclables, and other waste materials under the guidance of experienced staff. Apprentices learn how to operate various equipment, follow safety protocols, and understand environmental regulations related to waste management. This role provides hands-on experience and knowledge needed for advancement within the solid waste industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an apprentice solid waste worker?

To thrive as an Apprentice Solid Waste Worker, you generally need a high school diploma or equivalent, basic math and literacy skills, and the physical ability to perform manual labor. Familiarity with waste collection vehicles, safety equipment, and sometimes a commercial driver's license (CDL) are commonly required. Dependability, teamwork, and strong communication are important soft skills that help ensure efficient and safe operations. These skills and qualities are essential for maintaining public health and environmental standards while supporting effective waste management services.

About Guardian Plumbing

At Guardian Plumbing, we deliver Castle-Worthy Service to homeowners and businesses across the Omaha metro. Our team is built around five core values — Gratitude, Integrity, Value, Excellence, and Service (GIVES) — and we’re growing fast. If you take pride in clean workmanship, show up ready to work, and want to build a long-term career with a company that invests in its people, we want to hear from you.

The Role

We’re hiring an experienced Journeyman Plumber to lead our remodel and new construction work. You’ll rough-in and trim out residential remodels, basement finishes, additions, and light commercial projects. What You’ll Do

  • Read blueprints and lay out DWV and water supply systems for remodels and new construction
  • Rough-in water, waste, vent, and gas lines to code
  • Set fixtures, water heaters, and appliances during trim-out
  • Coordinate with GCs, inspectors, and other trades on active job sites
  • Mentor apprentices and help maintain Guardian’s quality standards
  • Keep trucks, materials, and job sites organized and clean

What You Need

  • Active City of Omaha Journeyman Plumber’s license (required)
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Solid experience with residential remodels and new construction plumbing
  • Ability to read blueprints and pull your own permits
  • Strong work ethic, dependable attendance, and clear communication
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical work in varied conditions

What We Offer

  • Starting pay at $45/hour — with room to grow based on performance
  • 40 hours per week — steady, year-round work
  • 2 weeks paid time off annually
  • 4% 401(k) match
  • Health insurance reimbursement
  • Company vehicle and tools provided
  • A team that respects your craft and backs you up
