VOCATIONAL LECTURER - CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
DAWSON TECHNICAL INSTITUTE
Dawson Technical Institute is seeking a passionate and experienced Construction Management Vocational Lecturer to teach and mentor students enrolled in an accelerated Construction Management program. This role is ideal for a construction industry professional who is committed to workforce development and enjoys sharing industry knowledge with diverse adult learners. The successful candidate will deliver engaging classroom instruction, facilitate hands-on learning experiences, and prepare students for successful careers in the construction industry through practical application of construction management principles and real-world projects
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality classroom instruction in construction management and related technical subjects.
  • Develop, update, and maintain curriculum that aligns with industry standards, workforce needs, and student learning outcomes.
  • Facilitate hands-on activities, project-based learning, and practical construction management exercises.
  • Assess student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and academic records in accordance with college policies.
  • Utilize the College's Learning Management System (LMS) and instructional technologies to support student learning.
  • Create an inclusive and engaging learning environment that supports diverse learners.
  • Mentor and advise students regarding career pathways and opportunities in the construction industry.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, student services, advising, admissions, and academic support teams to enhance student success.
  • Foster relationships with industry partners to expand internship opportunities and workforce connections.
  • Promote safe work practices and reinforce construction industry safety standards within all instructional activities.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and other college initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Architecture, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field (Bachelor's degree preferred); and five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant construction industry experience.
    OR State or City-issued General Contractor License; and Ten (10) to twelve (12) years of construction industry experience.

Required Certifications: OSHA 30 General Construction Certification (Required)
Preferred Certifications: OSHA 500 Certification or OSHA 510 Certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching, training, or instructional experience in higher education, vocational education, apprenticeship programs, or workforce development settings.
  • Experience developing curriculum and instructional materials.
  • Familiarity with construction management software, including scheduling, estimating, project management, and related applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect classroom learning with real-world construction industry practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of construction management principles, processes, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate adult learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to student success, workforce readiness, and academic excellence.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and industry stakeholders.
  • Commitment to workplace and construction site safety principles.

Technology Requirements
  • Candidates should be proficient with: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Brightspace Learning Management System (LMS), Navigate, PeopleSoft, Microsoft ePortfolio tools
  • Experience with construction management technology platforms is preferred.

Salary Range: $35/hour - $40/hour
