Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day operations of the steel fabrication shop.

  • Coordinate shop scheduling, assign workloads, and monitor job progress.

  • Supervise and mentor welders, fitters, fabricators, and shop assistants.

  • Maintain production flow to meet project timelines and quality standards.

  • Interpret and communicate fabrication drawings and specs with precision.

  • Conduct inspections to ensure weld integrity and dimensional accuracy.

  • Champion safety culturelead toolbox talks and enforce OSHA compliance.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free shop conditions.

  • Track and manage raw materials inventory and shop tooling.

  • Monitor production output and ensure deadlines, cost targets, and quality standards are met.

  • Collaborate with engineering, drafting, project management, and estimating teams to improve communication and job readiness.

  • Implement systems such as production tracking tools and Lean/Six Sigma-style process improvements to reduce rework and downtime.

  • Use data and root cause analysis to drive continuous improvement.

  • Document daily production records and status reports.

  • Cultivate team accountability while developing individual talent.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of fabrication or welding shop experience; 2+ years in a leadership role.

  • Proven hands-on experience with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding.

  • Deep understanding of blueprint reading, weld symbols, and fabrication methods.

  • Strong belief in systems, structure, and process as tools for success.

  • Familiarity with Strumis, scheduling software, or similar production tools preferred.

  • Comfortable leading teams and managing cross-functional communication.

  • Knowledge of AWS, AISC, and other relevant fabrication/welding codes.

  • Proficient with computersemail, spreadsheets, and production reporting systems.

  • No formal education requiredexperience and performance speak louder.
