Job description

Position Summary

The Sr. Toolmaker role is a "hands-on" Toolmaker role that provides strategic technical tooling support to Operations projects (Production) as well as R&D and New Product Development (NPD). This position must have hands on toolmaking experience to identify and troubleshoot technical tool issues in production, oversee Mold and Mold component fabrication, service, and maintenance of production tooling and fixtures from engineering prints and 3-D CAD. Must have experience with Mold design. Must have in-depth knowledge of milling, turning, grinding, wire EDM, sinker EDM, and CNC systems and their capabilities. This position will be required to give input, guidance, and technical support on new Mold builds, fixtures, modifications, and improvements based on experience and common practice. This position requires a hands-on person who can perform all functions in the tooling room during the fabrication, maintenance, or repair of any Mold, fixture, or tool if necessary. This position will be responsible for time and cost estimations for project timelines.

What You'll do as a Senior Toolmaker
  • Strategic collaboration with Molding, R&D, Automation, and Assembly to ensure projects are delivered accurately and on time.
  • Tooling project support for all STERIS Conroe related projects
  • Support with new tooling for injection molds, production fixtures, and hand tools for assembly.
  • Investigate and resolve tooling issues in production to ensure limited downtime.
  • Oversee and build prototype products, jigs, and fixtures for production.
  • Works closely with Engineering to enhance productivity
  • Plans Mold builds / repairs by reading blueprints, instructions, and sketches, or studying actual part
  • Set up equipment by studying Mold requirements, materials, tolerances, and machine capabilities.
  • Contributes to product design by providing technical capabilities of equipment and offering solutions.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by following standards and procedures.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 4+ years of hands-on Toolmaker & Tool Troubleshooting Experience.

  • CAD Design experience

  • Experience with Statistical Method and Engineering Calculations.

  • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).

  • 3D CAD modeling, experience with SolidWorks is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of CNC and EDM

  • General tool shop practices and advanced knowledge of machinery such as lathes, grinders, mills, etc.

Preferred:

  • 1 year of experience in Design for Quality and Lean Manufacturing.

  • Apprenticeship in tool making with any applicable coursework.

Other:

  • Strong leadership and teamwork.

  • Ability to communicate effectively across the enterprise, as well as various groups such as Regulatory, QA/QC, Supply Chain, internal customers (Marketing, Customer Service, Sales) and external suppliers.

  • Someone who is very flexible, motivated, and has strong Problem-solving skills.

  • High level of commitment to the success of a project.

  • Microsoft Office Software and other company and discipline-specific software applications.

  • Effective organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and plan work.

  • Must be able to effectively evaluate staff skills and delegate to ensure projects meet deadlines.

  • Self-Starter, must be able to manage time with limited oversight.

Pay range for this opportunity is$35.25-$45.62.This position is eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
