Job description

Work Arrangement

Hybrid: The role requires the candidate to report to Milford, MI at least three times per week.

The Role

Senior Component HIL Simulation and Integration Engineer – responsible for creating hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) environments that enable development, verification, and validation of embedded controllers and calibrations for battery, hybrid, electrification, engine, transmission, chassis, and intelligent brake controls. The position supports the HIL Agile Release Train (HIL ART) at the Milford Proving Grounds Campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with software development, calibration, and validation stakeholders to identify solutions to customer needs.
  • Engage with cross‑functional team members to coordinate on‑time delivery of testing environments.
  • Create and maintain simulation models for HIL test environments.
  • Evaluate, parametrize, and tune test environments based on system requirements and calibrations.
  • Collaborate with test environment users to root cause and resolve unexpected test results.
  • Provide technical support for test environment user activities.
  • Plan, communicate, and coordinate test environment strategy and rollout.
  • Assist initiatives to benchmark and adopt next‑generation simulation technology and tools.
  • Perform test environment correlation activities based on experimental data.
  • Support HIL bench and controller testing, including automated tools.
  • Create, maintain, and improve standard architectures.
  • Work closely with sources of models and equipment to share common simulation assets.
  • Lead a small group of team members and collaborate with test environment customers, technical leaders, and management to support program imperatives.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or Computer).
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience, 3 of which focused on simulation and testing of electronic control modules.
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink for plant model development and integration and basic usage of additional real‑time simulation tools.
  • Familiarity with automotive communication technologies such as CAN, LIN, SPI, and Ethernet.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including Python and C/C++.
  • Experience with software version control tools such as GIT or Bitbucket.
  • Experience with SAFe for implementing agile practices.
  • Experience with project management tools such as IBM RTC or Jira.
  • Experience with automation tools including Jenkins.
  • Experience leading large or difficult projects with high levels of ambiguity.
  • Knowledge of vehicle motion or high‑voltage battery and controls systems (e.g., brake, battery charging, engine, electric motor).
  • Strong customer focus, innovation, collaboration, learning agility, communication, problem solving, and result orientation.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Master’s degree in engineering (Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or Computer).
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of experience focused on software or control system simulation and testing.
  • Experience developing microprocessor‑based, real‑time control algorithms in Python, C/C++, etc.
  • Familiarity with additional simulation tools (e.g., GT Suite, CarSim, Amesim).
  • Experience with embedded control software and automated build processes (gcc, gdb, Eclipse, ETAS INCA).
  • Experience with HIL bench tools such as ETAS INCA, Lauterbach, CAN (CANalyzer or Vehicle Spy).
  • Demonstrated success in SIL or HIL methodology development and deployment.
  • Experience with synchronous and asynchronous event‑driven simulation methodologies.
  • Experience with advanced technology development.
  • Experience with software integration verification and validation.
  • Experience as a Controls, Software, or Calibration Engineer.
  • Experience in a production vehicle program.
