The Field Engineer - Energy is responsible for providing customer technical support for all AFL electrical power systems products into the utility and telecom markets. Supports the commercial team efforts by providing product installation expertise, building customer relationships, and providing technical support for troubleshooting and repairs.
Responsibilities
  • Support customer projects through on-site support for installation training, field failure investigations, on-site supervision, or direct installation support.
  • Provide hands-on product training and installation support to customers.
  • Assist customers with product installation questions.
  • Provide support to further develop installation and training documentation for products.
  • Assist with new product development by providing installation insight.
  • Supports the development of application notes, instruction manuals, and application videos for products, installation procedures and applications.
  • Interact with product managers, application engineers, sales team, and customer service representatives as required.
  • Travel to customer sites and train end users on proper installation techniques.
  • Develop and/or update procedures and documentation for his/her area as applicable.
  • Follow, know, promote, and demand the fulfillment of the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) policy, rules, procedures, and operative controls to maintain and improve our performance on these matters.
  • Identify client's requirements on sustainability needs from our products.
  • Inform EHS department for any requirements from clients that involve new materials or processes changes to identify environmental, health and safety impacts.

Qualifications
  • (Required) Advanced Installation knowledge of electrical distribution and transmission products.
  • (Required) 5+ years of experience in the electric utility field with a solid understanding of the electric utility industry.
  • (Required) Hands-on field experience in electric utility line work in the distribution, transmission and/or substation environments.
  • (Required) Demonstrated understanding of transmission, substation, and/or distribution construction & maintenance applications.
  • (Required) strong writing skills for training content development and customer communication. Strong verbal skills for effective internal and customer communication.
  • (Required) Willing and able to conduct customer trainings, high voltage product demonstrations, and troubleshoot customer product issues in the field.
  • (Required) Develop expertise in AFL's optical products and hardware used by utility market customers in order to provide the same customer training and support as AFL's electrical conductor accessories.

  • (Preferred) Experience with AFL products or equivalent (substation accessories, bus conductors, compression accessories, cable motion control hardware, formed wire cable hardware, and the related tools)
  • (Preferred) Current or previous electrical line worker qualification (i.e. Line Apprentice 4, B-Class Lineman, A-class Lineman, Journeyman) transmission line or substation construction background. Distribution line background will also be considered.
