Job description


Job purpose

An Apprentice Carpenter assists the Carpenters on the job site. They must be comfortable working with tools on site, understand and carry out assignments based on directions they are given.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Follow all Colt and site-specific safety procedure at all times!
  • Follow and execute directions given by Carpenters, Foreman and Site Superintendent
  • Accomplish assigned tasks properly and in a timely manner.
  • Be able to cut, spread and frame a typical wall.
  • Cut to given measurements - straight and square.
  • Square and sheath walls
  • Lay joist on layout marks
  • Stand and secure walls.
  • Sheath roofs and decks
  • Assist in training of entry level workers.
  • Understand and work within Coltโ€™s tool program.
  • Produce work at or under budget.
  • Educate entry level workers on safety protocols and direct proper form when protocols are not followed.
  • Actively work to increase job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.

  • Basic safety knowledge and performance
  • Appropriate knowledge of carpentry tools and skills
  • Demonstrate initiative on site.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work area.

Working conditions

Full-time position, requiring a minimum of 40 hours/week - often weekend work may be required, essentially whatever it takes to get the job done. Environmental factors depend on job location but may include extremely cold, extremely hot and humid conditions in an effort to meet client expectations. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and sometimes at extreme heights.

Essential Function requirements

Apprentice Carpenters should expect to do a considerable amount of lifting, carrying, climbing, kneeling and balancing. Certain amounts of strength, dexterity and alternates is required. Must follow all safety requirements of the job.
