Are you a highly skilled diesel technician who takes pride in precision, performance, and getting the job done right the first time? If you thrive on diagnosing complex engine systems, completing quality overhauls, and proving your work on sea trials, we want to talk with you.


MSHS Pacific Power Group is seeking a Journey Level Engines Technician to join our marine service team in Kent, WA. This role is ideal for an experienced technician who works independently, communicates professionally with customers, and is committed to safety, efficiency, and technical excellence.


Position Summary

The Journey Level Engines Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and testing marine diesel engines and related systems. This position plays a critical role in ensuring customer satisfaction, equipment reliability, and safe, efficient operations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Determine unit condition by conducting inspections and advanced diagnostic testingย 
  • Identify deficiencies and complete engine overhauls and related repairsย 
  • Perform sea trials to verify performance and make necessary adjustmentsย 
  • Perform Volvo Penta acceptance testing per manufacturer standardsย 
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engine electronic controlsย 
  • Utilize electrical multi-meters and diagnostic softwareย 
  • Maintain accurate engine and vessel service documentationย 
  • Complete detailed work logs in a timely mannerย 
  • Communicate professionally with customers, technical support, sales, and managementย 
  • Evaluate warranty, service, and parts options to help control costsย 
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment and service vehicleย 
  • Provide guidance, assistance, and training to apprentice marine techniciansย 
  • Accept ownership of new requests and proactively identify value-add opportunities

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of diesel engine experienceย 
  • Experience with small bore marine diesel enginesย 
  • Knowledge of marine electrical systemsย 
  • Thorough understanding of diesel engine electronic controlsย 
  • Proficiency using electrical multi-metersย 
  • Strong ability to visually diagnose mechanical and electrical issuesย 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skillsย 
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, operating instructions, and work ordersย 
  • Strong laptop/PC skills for diagnostics and documentationย 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skillsย 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervisionย 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a teamย 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Experience with Volvo marine engines, drives, and associated control systemsย
