Job description

Mountain Parks Electric is a distribution cooperative seeking an individual for the Apprentice Lineman position in our Granby, Colorado location. Mountain Parks Electric has approximately 70 employees, 1,800 miles of line, and serves 22,000 meters. MPEI is headquartered in Granby, Colorado located at an elevation of 7,935 feet, 90 miles from Denver International Airport and 25 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park. Experience gold-medal fishing in the Colorado and Fraser Rivers or take a boat out on Lake Granby, the second largest body of water in Colorado. Granby is near Shadow Mountain and Grand Lake and offers spectacular scenery, miles of hiking trails connecting Granby to Fraser, Colorado, downhill skiing, mountain bike trail systems, and down-hill bike park and cross-country trails at nearby resorts.

We have an opening for an Apprentice Lineman position in Granby. The Apprentice Lineman works under the direction of the Crew Foreman and/or Journeyman, using a planned program of progressive training and experience that will result in the development of skills and knowledge necessary for the constructing, maintaining, and repairing electrical facilities. This position works with senior apprentices and journeyman to perform maintenance and construction activities on energized or de-energized facilities, across all system voltages, within the scope of training and certification. They respond, investigate, and/or repair service interruptions, to ensure or to provide prompt restoration of service and assist in evaluating the cause of the interruption to prevent future interruptions and provide continued reliability. Apprentice Lineman operates electric line construction and maintenance equipment including, but not limited to, bucket truck, digger, trencher, forklifts, backhoes, and trucks. They are responsible for tools and material assigned to the vehicle on which they are working as well as the general good housekeeping of vehicles. The Apprentice lineman position prepares vehicles for construction and/or maintenance projects to include fueling, loading, unloading, stocking materials and supplies, and inspecting PPE, vehicles, tools, and for safety compliance. They Assist with record keeping of safety compliance, fleet maintenance, and inventory and maintains a log of work assigned/performed. They also participate in and maintain availability for on-call rotations for outages and associated service interruptions after normal working hours, and on holidays and weekends.

Requirements are a high school diploma or equivalent; enrollment/completion of an apprenticeship lineman program or vocational/technical school in power line studies is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. They must participate in the MPE approved training program and successfully complete within the first four years of employment as an Apprentice. Must have a valid Colorado Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 90 days of hire and must keep current and valid throughout employment. Basic first aid and CPR certification is required within 3 months of hire, and they must keep current and valid throughout employment. Lastly, they must reside within a 45-minute response time of service area center, and within service territory.
