Your Impact

The Junior Database (DBA) will work as a member of the IT Operations – Database Administration team to support all aspects of the database environments. The incumbent will monitor performance and document metrics to measure efficiency leading to system performance improvements. This role requires critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills with the ability to follow procedures based on best practices for database security, configuration, and disaster recovery. The Junior DBA will work closely with the Senior DBA ensuring standards are met and procedures are followed. Candidate must demonstrate INPRS culture and values: Model of Integrity, Team Player, Candid, Continuous Learner, Diligent, Trust, Constructive Conflict, Commitment, and Accountability. This position will report directly to the Manager of IT Operations.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists in performing database maintenance activities including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching and backup, and recovery of all databases.
  • Assists in troubleshooting, diagnosing and quickly responding to database and application issues minimizing disruption to services and escalating to vendors for support as needed.
  • Assists in proactively monitoring and reporting on database performance and capacity and provide trend analysis for all environments.
  • Utilize Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) for managing and monitoring the database and hosted server environments.
  • Assists in creating and debugging stored procedures, functions, packages, the interaction of triggers, and other Oracle schema objects.
  • Document database operating procedures; contribute to the Service Delivery knowledge base.
  • Participate in a weekly IT Operations on-call support rotation to provide effective coverage for after-hours and weekend support.

Job Requirements:

  • Two plus years of experience in a technical field with good problem-solving skills.
  • Database technologies (SQL Server or Oracle) and Linux skills are preferred.
  • Hands-on experience utilizing Oracle Enterprise Manager and Grid Control preferred.
  • Demonstrate the ability to support and maintain:
    1. Oracle E-Business Suite.
    2. PeopleSoft and WebLogic.
    3. Oracle databases in a virtualized server environment.
    4. Scripting to automate daily maintenance tasks.
    5. RMAN for performing database backup and recovery.
  • Experience in a virtualized server environment preferred.
  • Experience with scripting to automate daily maintenance tasks
  • Knowledge of Oracle 10g and higher processes and architecture.
  • Troubleshoot and tune databases.
  • Experience using RMAN for performing database backup and recovery.
  • Ability to edit system configuration and design documentation.
  • Ability to effectively present technical ideas, problems, and solutions to technical teams and all levels of management.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and persuade at all management levels and thrive in a cross-functional, evolving business and technical environment.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, organize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
  • Must understand the core technologies that underpin modern software development, especially data management and messaging technologies.
  • 1-3 years of experience working in the financial services industry preferred.
