MSD of Shakamak is seeking a dedicated, student focused Junior/Senior High School Guidance Counselor to support students in grades 7-12 through academic planning, social-emotional development, and college and career readiness. The successful candidate will be committed to building meaningful relationships with students and families while helping prepare every student for success after graduation.
Essential Responsibilities
*Provide a comprehensive school counseling program that supports the academic, career, college, and social-emotional developmental of students.
*Assist students with academic planning, course selection, scheduling, and graduation requirements.
*Guide students in developing Graduation Pathways and postsecondary plans.
*Support students with college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, career exploration, military opportunities, apprenticeships, and workforce readiness.
*Coordinate and monitor dual credit, career technical education (CTE), and other postsecondary opportunities.
*Provide individual and small-group counseling as appropriate and make referrals to outside agencies when needed.
*Collaborate with administrators, teachers, parents, and community agencies to support student success.
*Participate in multidisciplinary teams, including MTSS, Section 504, case conferences, and other student support meetings as assigned.
*Interpret student assessment data and assist with academic interventions.
*Maintain accurate student records and ensure compliance with state and federal reporting requirements.
*Support implementation of Indiana graduation requirements and applicable Indiana Department of Education initiatives.
*Promote a positive school climate while maintaining confidentiality and professional ethics.
*Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Qualifications
*Valid Indiana School Counselor License.
*Knowledge of Indiana graduation requirements, Graduation Pathways, college admissions, financial aid, career planning, and student support services.
*Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
*Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
*Demonstrated ability to collaborate as a member of a student support team.
*Experience with student information systems and educational technology preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
*Experience as a secondary school counselor.
*Familiarity with Indiana Career Explorer, dual credit programming, CTE pathways, scholarships, and postsecondary planning.
*Knowledge of MTSS, Section 504, and social-emotional learning process.
