Plumbing Field Sales & Service Technician

The Plumbing Field Sales & Service Technician is responsible for sales growth by helping customers find the best plumbing solutions for their homes. This position sells plumbing services, repair work, replacement options, and maintenance agreements directly to customers at their homes or businesses. Success is measured by technical proficiency, customer satisfaction, and consistent achievement of sales targets.
This is a senior role. In addition to running calls, the technician will help train, coach, and support the other plumbers on the team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-home consultations and present plumbing solutions to homeowners with the objective of closing sales for:
    • Water heater replacement (tank and tankless systems)
    • Plumbing system upgrades (water softeners, filtration systems, pressure-regulating solutions, recirculation systems)
    • Whole-home water quality and purification solutions
    • Plumbing maintenance memberships / service agreements
  • Present options, pricing, and financing; obtain signed contracts.
  • Prospect new business through field-based activities.
  • Train, coach, and support other plumbers - ride-alongs, backup on tough calls, and sharing expertise to bring the team up. (Core expectation for this role.)
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure the solutions sold are delivered and installed correctly.
  • Perform non-invasive visual assessments (equipment age/condition, basic comfort survey, measurements, photos) to support solution design and quoting.
  • Prepare reports and maintain materials.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing needs with a high level of accuracy as needed.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • High-experience, senior-level plumber with the ability to mentor others.
  • 3+ years of residential plumbing service experience.
  • 1-2 years of in-home plumbing sales experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to diagnose plumbing issues and clearly communicate repair or replacement solutions to homeowners.
  • Strong interpersonal and consultative sales skills.
  • Valid state plumbing license (Apprentice, Tradesman, Journeyman, or Master - based on company requirements; Journeyman or Master preferred for this senior role).
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Comfortable working in crawl spaces, attics, confined areas, hot environments, and performing physically demanding work.
  • Professional, reliable, and customer-focused mindset.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental operational functionality of:
    • Residential water heaters (tank & tankless)
    • Drain, waste & vent (DWV) systems
    • Water distribution systems
    • Fixtures, shut-offs, traps, and basic code requirements
  • Ability to read plumbing diagrams and blueprints, and troubleshoot issues involving water pressure, flow restrictions, leaks, gas lines, and drainage.
  • Must be able to use a tablet, smartphone, GPS, and service software.
  • Neat, clean, professional appearance with strong communication skills and a desire to exceed client expectations.
  • Approved to drive under company insurance requirements.
