Job description

We are a union electrical contracting firm specializing in commercial and public works projects, seeks an experienced Union Electrical Estimator. The ideal candidate will prepare accurate, competitive bids for union electrical projects, with strong emphasis on public sector work (schools, municipal, government). This role reports to the Estimating Manager and supports project acquisition in the Sacramento region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed electrical estimates for union projects using PlanSwift, Accubid, or Bluebeam, including material, labor, equipment, and overhead.

  • Analyze bid documents, plans, specs, and scopes for public works (prevailing wage, Davis‑Bacon compliance).

  • Solicit and evaluate union subcontractor bids, vendor quotes, and union labor rates (IBEW Local 340).

  • Attend pre‑bid meetings, site walks, and union labor coordination sessions.

  • Collaborate with PMs on value engineering, alternates, and risk assessment.

  • Maintain estimating database, historical data, and union wage updates.

  • Support bid submissions via BidClerk, public portals (eBidBoard, PlanetBids), and union directories.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years electrical estimating experience, 3+ years union/public works.

  • Proven track record bidding IBEW union electrical projects in California (prevailing wage experience required).

  • Proficiency in PlanSwift/Accubid/Bluebeam and Microsoft Excel.

  • Familiarity with NEC, California Electrical Code, and public sector requirements (Dirtify, CASp).

  • Strong understanding of union labor rates, fringe benefits, and apprenticeship ratios.

  • Valid CA driver's license and ability to travel within Sacramento region.

Preferred

  • Experience with public sector bidding platforms (PlanetBids, eMars).

  • Knowledge of LEED, energy efficiency, and renewable electrical systems.

  • Bachelor's in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
