Job description

Description:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Product Design Engineer will lead design and development projects from concept through production. This role will be responsible for producing layouts and engineering specifications of complex mechanical assemblies, constructing clear and complete assembly drawings, detailing manufacturing drawings, and revising or modifying existing drawings. These will be used to facilitate quoting, purchasing and/or manufacturing of standard or custom products. This is not an entry-level role. The ideal candidate will be expected to have extensive design experience with heavy industrial equipment operating in demanding, high-wear environments.


Job Essential Functions

  • Own the Engineering Design and Development of complex mechanical systems from conceptual design through production build, including components, subassemblies, and assemblies.
  • Translate customer requirements, application data, and field measurements into robust engineering designs and specifications.
  • Produce detailed 3D models and assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software.
  • Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer requirements, and related specifications.
  • Evaluate and implement both in-house and customer change requests per Engineering Change procedures.
  • Train and mentor junior-level drafters and engineers.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with wear materials, hard facing, castings, and weldments common to heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, welding, and casting.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Experience working directly with customers and conducting on-site equipment assessments.
  • Competency in creating detailed operating procedures and technical documents.
  • Exposure to 3D scanning tools, equipment or software (FARO Scene, Geomagic Design X, etc.)
  • Advanced mathematical skills, with the ability to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.

Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel domestically ~10% to support customers and participate in organizational activities
  • Occasional travel to job sites, plants, mills or quarries may be required.
Requirements:
  • Bachelors of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Associates of Applied Sciences (AAS) in Mechanical Drafting and Design, or other closely related technical related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in the design and fabrication of steel welded products in the aggregate, mining, or pulp and paper industry.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software, particularly AutoCAD and Inventor.
  • Strong working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, fastening and welding practices, and manufacturing drawing standards
