Job Description
The apprentice Field Service Engineer role combines academic and on the job training over a four-year period. Over the four years the apprentice will complete courses within a maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship.
The role is based at our Rochester, NY facility, where on the job learning will predominantly take place in the factory and service workshop. You will work with experienced engineers and technicians, either in one of our workshops or in the field.
Apprentice Responsibilities:
  • Complete all health and safety training and documentation requirements.
  • Participate in learning opportunities in the workshop, field and manufacturing facilities.
  • Adhere to the apprenticeship program and follow the rotation plan.
  • Produce the relevant documentary evidence of learning in the workplace.
  • Complete all required assessments.
  • Build good working relationships with other colleagues.
  • Attend college on day release schedule.
  • Complete all college-based and non-vocational qualifications associated with the apprenticeship.
  • Regularly report to line management and training provider regarding work and learning progress

Key role responsibilities and learning outcomes:
  • To be responsible for the health and safety of yourself and the workplace
  • To produce / review risk assessments and method statements in line with site requirements
  • Receive all manufacturers' actuators and gearboxes, clean, strip and determine their condition. Create a report listing the labor and materials necessary to carry out the repair or overhaul. Prepare a quotation based on these results.
  • Carry out the repair/overhaul and test the unit on the workshop test rig prior to creating and issuing a new test certificate.
  • Carry out factory fitting of valves/actuators.
  • To carry out detailed site surveys gathering all details required to enable manufacture of adaption components for site installations.
  • Carry out mechanical / electrical installation of actuators and associated retrofit adaption components, pedestals, drive shafts and commission the actuator.

Qualifications
Experience Requirements:
  • No previous experience, or technical knowledge is required, as full training will be provided.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
