Summary
Job Title: FINISH CARPENTER
Department: BLUSTONE HOMES
Reports to: GENERAL MANAGER
Location: SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE
Status: NON-EXEMPT
Summary
Construct, erect, install and repair structures using carpenter's hand and power tools. Possesses an advanced knowledge of the position and provides a willingness to put forth extra effort.
Essential Functions

  • Selects materials and structural unites, such as lumber, prefabricated doors and cabinets of wood or plastic and paneling.
  • Shape or cut materials to specific measurement using hand tools, machines and/or power saw.
  • Examines blueprints to determine dimensions of structure.
  • Layout floor plan and cabinet work, using rule, framing square and calipers.
  • Determines sequence of activities concerned with fabrication, assembly and erection of structure.
  • Installs structures, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, builds stairs, cabinets, countertops and lays hardwood floors and tile work.
  • Able to hang & finish drywall and accessories.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Understand and follow company chain of command and reporting methods.
  • Retain and apply what is learned as it applies to the next skill level.
  • Regularly attend company safety training sessions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Start and end time dependent on time of year.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Experience
  • Two or more years of experience in a related area preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of the carpentry trade.
  • Thorough knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials.
  • Skill in the use of carpentry tools and wood working equipment.
  • Ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications.
  • Must be ability to stand for long periods of time, must be able to regularly at least 50 pounds of force.
  • Able to perform job duties with little to no supervision
  • General understanding of construction practices.
  • Communication skills both verbal and written and ability to take direction and carry out job duties as needed.

Education
High school diploma or Equivalent required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.

Maintains a valid Driver's License and be insurable under company insurance provider/program
