Salary:           $9,407.36 monthly

Attention:      Please note - to be considered for this vacancy you MUST have successfully completed of a union sponsored apprenticeship training program to qualify as a journeyman laborer.
Overview:
Performs a variety of semi-skilled work, below the journeyman level in the mechanical and building trades or in maintenance and upkeep or custodial care of buildings, grounds, equipment or machinery or in assisting Logistics Division with moving, loading and unloading. 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the loading and unloading of supplies, plates, mail, etc. for the division of Logistics.
  • Cleans, greases, paints and makes minor repairs to machinery, gears and other appurtenances.
  • Maintains and makes operating repairs to equipment.
  • Performs carpentry, masonry, painting and plumbing tasks below the journeyman level.
  • May sweep, clean, mop or polish floors, windows, furniture or do other work of a janitorial nature.
  • May make periodic rounds of buildings and grounds for inspection and protection against fire, theft or other hazards.
  • May drive a truck, operate power mowers, snow removal equipment or other power equipment.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience:
Requires successful completion of a union sponsored apprenticeship training program to qualify as a journeyman laborer.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Requires working knowledge of construction and maintenance materials.
  • Requires knowledge of standard hand and power tools used in maintenance and construction and safety procedures.
  • Requires the skill to use a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Requires the ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Requires the ability to visually inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
  • Requires the ability to make simple mathematical computations.
  • Requires the ability to perform physical functions and tasks associated with the trade.
  • Requires willingness to travel and possession of valid Illinois driver’s license as required by individual positions within the class.
  • Requires ability to lift and carry up to 90 pounds, push/pull 25-50 lbs.
