Job description

About This Role:

Cardinal is seeking a PLS to join our dynamic and growing team. As a PLS, you will be responsible for proper scheduling, budget, contract, and client interaction for all projects in your service area.

Responsibilities:

As a PLS, you will or will be:

Oversee management of project budgets, estimates, cost control, and schedules.

Oversee the production department of surveyors, project coordinators, and CAD Techs.

Prepare client invoices, deliverables, and project-related correspondence.

Schedule fieldwork, office work, and project deliverables.

Establish deadlines, assign responsibilities, and monitor and summarize the progress of projects.

Act as a representative for senior stakeholders at internal and external meetings.

Report project cost and quality control activities to the client.

Prepare contract change orders and supplemental agreements; monitor project budgets.

Planning, directing, and coordinating operations, including project managers, staff surveyors, techs, and field operations.

Prepare work plans, assemble project teams, delegate tasks, and ensure compliance with the scope and timely completion.

Responsible for accuracy, timeliness, and financial performance of assigned projects.

Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new clients.

Evaluate policy and procedures to ensure all deliverables are done accurately and using the most efficient method.

Responsible for survey calculations, analysis and final map checking, review of title data, record drawings research, and client relations.

Collaborate with project team members, including other licensed surveyors, engineers, and technical and survey staff.

Review and process the results of field surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land features and structures.

Verify the accuracy of field survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.

Sign and seal survey documents.

Perform business development activities, proposal preparation, project management, and final quality control for all survey deliverables.

Manage surveying department staff and schedules.

Ensure Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes. Acting safely at all times.

Participate in or conduct and document safety meetings with the crew daily. Host or assist with morning safety meetings. Bring safety and proper working procedure topics up as reminders and ensure all workers are comfortable with the assigned tasks by reviewing their day plan.

Mentor less experienced employees, train them in proper company standards, and ensure more experienced employees are helping to mentor less-skilled workers in proper company standards.

Manage multiple vendors on the purchase of field supplies and tools.

Develop marketing initiatives for their service area and preparation of job proposals.

Maintain firm standards for the preparation of survey and mapping documents.

Provide technical direction and oversight to surveying staff regarding approach and resolution of office/field conflicts.

Manage and approve time-off requests and schedule accordingly. Review timesheets for billing accuracy and approve through accounting software.

Motivate, organize, and supervise managers and employees under their direction.

Conduct performance reviews of employees under their supervision.

Monitor field crew performance and productivity. Make personnel decisions regarding hiring, compensation, training, promotions, discipline, and termination of field staff.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or GED. equivalent is required. Additional college coursework or apprenticeship is highly desirable. An advanced degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of four years of land surveying experience, at least two must have been at a senior management level. Capacity supporting executive-level management is required.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Carlson Civil Suites - IntelliCAD, preferred

Office management practices and procedures

Client communication and customer service via email, phone, or in-person

Project and field crew staff management and evaluation

Government, Commercial, Residential and Retail Projects

Business development: proposal generation, contract review

Trimble Total Station, Data Collectors

Mathematical Calculations, Measurement Errors

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Must be able and willing to travel.

Must have essential requirements: professionalism, punctuality, and reliability.

Must have strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities.

Must have the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple projects.

Must read and interpret field notes, engineering plans, and construction documents.

Must perform deed and utility research and compile record information such as record maps, legal descriptions, utility information, and right of way data.

Must perform calculations and instructions for fieldwork and construction stakeout.

Must provide solutions to civil site design challenges.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

Valid driver's license with insurable record

Professional Surveying License (VA)
