Gallery Attendant Position

Job Description:

The ETAMU University Gallery is seeking students for the position ofGallery Attendantwith availability Monday through Friday between 9 am to 5 pm and some evenings and weekends.

Students interested in learning more about how art galleries are managed, including day-to-day operations, tours and workshops, and exhibition curation and installation, are encouraged to apply. For students interested in pursuing a career in museum work, this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in serval areas of museum operations: collections care, exhibitions, education, and visitor services. A background in art is NOT required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor the University Gallery to ensure the safety of the art on display
  • Greet and assist gallery guests
  • Track the number of guests who visit the gallery and collect zip code data from our visitors
  • Maintain the general cleanliness of the art gallery
  • Assist with unpacking, installation, packing, and storing art
  • Assist with scheduling and facilitating field trips and group tours
  • Complete an accurate timesheet and submit for approval promptly
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Galleries & Collections

Minimum Requirements

Education: Must be a student at East Texas A&M University

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

  • Friendly and comfortable communicating with guests, artists, and staff
  • Highly detail oriented

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and hold heavy objects
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs
  • Ability to use power tools and machinery
  • Ability to safely handle delicate and fragile artworks

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience with power tools
  • Experience patching, painting, and refinishing surfaces and walls

Comfortable working with and around children
