Job description

This position supports the finance function for an organization's technology and applied technology divisions. The analyst will work closely with technology leadership to manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting, with a particular focus on cloud spend management and project-based cost analysis. The role sits at the intersection of finance and technology operations, providing data-driven insights that guide investment decisions and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Build and maintain budgeting and forecasting models for technology and applied technology departments, working alongside leadership in those functions to evaluate performance and surface risks, opportunities, and challenges as they arise.
  • Conduct multi-year, project-level financial modeling that informs reporting on both operating and capital expenditures across technology investments.
  • Contribute to recurring reporting deliverables, including dashboards, trend analysis, and ad hoc requests prepared in coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Own portions of the monthly close process for technology departments, which includes tracking spend at the project and initiative level, completing variance analysis, refreshing forecasts in step with departmental leadership, and applying appropriate accounting treatment to invoices (accruals, prepaids, and the capital versus operating expense determination).
Finance Operations
  • Translate financial and operational data into actionable guidance for technology leaders across categories such as cloud infrastructure, network, end-user computing, services, and software licensing/SaaS.
  • Develop analyses and models that support better decision-making, highlight trends, and identify both cost-saving opportunities and emerging risks.
  • Help draft business cases supporting requests for capital and operating expenditures.
  • Partner with procurement and technology operations teams to review contracts and invoices, ensuring forecasts remain accurate and spend is optimized.
  • Lead cloud financial operations (FinOps) reporting across major cloud platforms, including:
  • Producing scheduled and ad hoc financial reports such as variance analyses, period-over-period comparisons, and dashboards
  • Sharing expense trends and insights with stakeholders across the business
  • Contributing to annual cloud spend budgets that account for growth plans, evolving technology, and optimization targets
  • Tracking actual cloud spend against budget and flagging variances

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related discipline
  • At least five years of relevant experience in corporate budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Comfort working with large, unfamiliar datasets and proficiency editing complex Excel models
  • Hands-on experience with ERP and EPM platforms such as Oracle, Hyperion Planning, OneStream, or similar tools
  • Solid grounding in accounting and finance basics, including policies and procedures, journal entries, accruals, prepaids, reclasses, budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting
  • Working knowledge of the procure-to-pay cycle (Quote, SOW, MSA, PO, Invoice)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across multiple levels of an organization
  • High attention to detail combined with strong analytical and problem-solving capability
  • Track record of delivering accurate work on tight timelines while juggling competing priorities and maintaining sight of broader objectives
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with cloud consumption services and the pricing models used by major providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Prior experience managing technology or IoT departmental spend, including knowledge of how those operational functions work
  • Comfort moving between finance, business, and technology conversations with credibility in each
  • Understanding of technology and IoT hardware and software assets, including software licensing and maintenance costs
  • Familiarity with the cost structure of technology and IoT functions, including hardware, software, contract labor, absorbed labor, and core budget costs, and the ability to apply that knowledge to project-level analysis
  • Experience producing quick-turn business cases, cost estimates, and financial models for technology and IoT initiatives
