Job description

Job Summary:
Corning Incorporated is one of the world’s leading innovators in glass, ceramic, and materials science. They are seeking an Applications Engineer to serve as the primary technical contact for customers, manage projects, and ensure that customer requirements are met through technical strategies and product support.
Responsibilities:
• Define, update, maintain Corning's technical account strategy for their customer
• Define and deploy Corning’s current product/support portfolio that matches the customer’s needs. Define gaps in those needs not met by current products.
• Gage competitor activities and status
• Management of all day-to-day technical activities at the account
• Coordinate Corning products design-in effort at specific customer
• Ensure Corning Program(s) understand the customer’s needs
• Support the customer’s test data analysis/interpretation (ongoing design programs)
• Support specific customer initiatives
• Coordinate understanding of coating and canning impacts during design-in and PPAP
• PPAP/Specification Management at Customer
• Coordinates with Regional Technology Manager to ensure Corning management understands the customer’s needs
• Coordinates System Engineering support
Qualifications:
Required:
• BS Engineering (Mechanical, Automotive, Materials, or Ceramic preferred)
• Minimum 3 years of business-related experience, desired 5 years
• Experience in application engineering, account management or system engineering with automotive customers and platform technologies (preference: emissions systems)
• Knowledge of competitors’/competitive technologies
• Understanding of specifications and approval process (incl. boundaries, tools)
• Understand the basics of global emissions legislation
• Understand the basics of emission testing
• Familiarity w/ QA systems (IATF16949, AIAG, PPAP, etc.)
• Team player with strong negotiation, presentation, communication, and project management skills
• Able to read technical drawings, solve problems, write technically, and maintain strong customer focus
• Self-starter with strong technical curiosity
Preferred:
• Understand current and future OEM-specific engine/system designs, strategies, functionality requirements, and implications for Corning products
• Understand OEM and supply chain development processes, including series introduction
• Strong knowledge of vehicle emissions systems, including substrates, filters, physical attributes, specifications, production, and quality methods
• Familiar with Corning systems such as CAPA, LIMS, and WWESS
• DFMEA/PFMEA experience
• Thorough understanding of design tools and services, including mounting/canning, coating effects, CAD, CAE, testing, emissions testing, and prototyping
• Established Corning (CET) network with knowledge of company structure, markets, and strategies
• General knowledge of engine and emission control technologies, trends, customer organizations, and supply chain roles/technologies
