POSITION SUMMARY

As an Applications Engineer, you will need to formulate an engineered estimate and or budget for new and existing clients that shall be provided by consultants, engineers, construction managers, general contractors and also from in-house Sales Representatives, Key Account Representatives and or Project Managers.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Analyze and interpret blueprints, specifications, and scope documents for fire and security system projects.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment for alarm systems, CCTV, access control, and other low-voltage installations.
  • Conduct take-offs and identify potential value-engineering alternatives to reduce costs without sacrificing quality.
  • Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to source competitive pricing.
  • Develop bid proposals, ensuring all required documentation is submitted on time.
  • Partner with sales and project management teams to ensure seamless project handoffs.
  • Maintain an up-to-date pricing database.
  • Keep current with changes in industry codes, technology advancements, and competitive practices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience estimating in the fire alarm and/or security/low voltage field.
  • Education BA Business/ BS Engineering/MS Engineering or applicable amount of experience in the appropriate field may be substituted for the educational background
  • Strong understanding of relevant codes, including NFPA and NEC.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed construction drawings and scope documentation.
  • Experience working with major manufacturers (e.g., Silent Knight, Firelite, Bosch, Hanwha, Avigilon, Axis, Genetec, Lenel, and others).
  • High level of organization and accuracy with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • NICET Certification- Fire Alarm Systems Level III or higher, preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Product selection and application (to ensure the right product is used in the right application) while maintaining adherence to Securitas’s product selection process and design standards.
  • Estimate installation costs in conjunction with Implementation Operations, Service Operations, Internal Labor and External Labor
  • Review of Field Site Survey documents and drawings.
  • Supports the RFI, RFP, RFQ and RFM&S process as needed
  • Create estimates and budgets for access control, intrusion, CCTV, intercom, PSIM, PLC and structured cabling systems
  • Review architectural, electrical, telecommunication, security engineering floor plans, riser drawings, device schedules, detail drawings, interconnect and closet layout drawings.
  • Interpret specifications, addendums, revisions, sketches and Scope of work.
  • Work with project managers and design engineers for creating change orders on existing and ongoing projects.
  • Manage assigned projects and maintain deadlines for each project.
  • Build and maintain a good relationship with coworkers, suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Create a detailed list of clarifications, exclusions & compliance on a per project basis
  • Knowledge of construction schedules, project meetings and how they pertain and impact the project.
  • Able to research product information utilizing the internet
  • Excellent working knowledge of construction industry conventions
  • Good understanding of workload and the requirements to maintain commitments.
  • Ability to navigate high value job environment for time lines, and compliance requirements
  • Firm grasp of the competitive environment and strategic plays by competitors
  • Excellent command and knowledge of building code requirements
