Full-time

Job description

About Globe Machine

For over 100 years, Globe Machine Manufacturing has delivered custom-engineered capital equipment for manufacturers in the pulp & paper, building products, and advanced composites industries. Globe is known for designing and building large-scale material handling and material moving systems-including conveyors, stackers, and integrated production machinery-supported by automation, controls, and robotics.

Role Overview

The Engineering Manager leads the design and execution of Globe's mechanical equipment solutions while managing and developing a team of engineers. This role is both hands-on and strategic-responsible for guiding mechanical design, ensuring technical excellence, and delivering complex industrial equipment that meets customer, manufacturing, and commercial requirements.

This is a key leadership role within Globe's engineering organization, working closely with Project Management, Operations, Controls, and Sales.

This position is located in Tacoma, WA.

What You'll Do as Engineering Manager

Lead Mechanical Engineering Teams

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical engineers focused on capital equipment and material handling systems.
  • Provide technical direction, design oversight, and coaching across projects.
  • Support workload planning, resource allocation, and project prioritization.

Design & Deliver Capital Equipment

  • Oversee the mechanical design of conveyors, stackers, and other industrial equipment used in heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Review and approve designs, calculations, layouts, and specifications.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, safety, manufacturability, and cost targets.

Technical Oversight & Problem Solving

  • Lead complex technical problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
  • Guide engineering decisions related to materials, mechanisms, structural integrity, and system performance.
  • Support installation planning and resolve field or commissioning challenges as needed.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Project Management to support schedules, budgets, and execution.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Manufacturing to ensure designs are production ready.
  • Work with Sales and Customer-facing teams to support technical scoping and customer requirements.

Process & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive engineering best practices, standards, and documentation.
  • Improve design processes, tools, and workflows to support scalability and quality.

What Makes You a Great Fit

You are a mechanical engineering leader who enjoys both designing industrial equipment and leading people. You've worked on large, custom machines-not small consumer products-and understand what it takes to deliver reliable capital equipment in demanding industrial environments.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline
  • 7+ years of experience designing industrial machinery, capital equipment, or material handling systems
  • Proven experience leading or managing mechanical engineering teams
  • Strong background in mechanical design for heavy industrial applications
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with conveyors, stackers, or large material moving systems
  • Exposure to automation, controls, or integrated manufacturing systems
  • Experience working in OEM or custom equipment environments
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturing principles

Why Globe

At Globe, engineering leadership matters. You'll have the opportunity to lead meaningful work-designing large-scale equipment that directly supports critical industries-while helping shape the future of Globe's engineering organization.
