Job description

Electrical Applications Engineer

Location: Columbus, OH
Job Type: Direct Hire
Starting Salary: From $100,000 per year (higher compensation may be available based on experience)

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Applications Engineer to support the design and implementation of power distribution solutions for mission-critical facilities. In this role, you will work directly with customers, contractors, consultants, sales teams, and internal departments to develop technical solutions that meet project requirements from initial design through production and commissioning.

The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering knowledge with excellent communication skills and enjoys working in a customer-focused environment.

Primary Responsibilities Technical Sales Support
  • Collaborate with the sales team to develop engineered electrical solutions based on customer requirements.
  • Review project specifications and recommend products that best meet application needs.
  • Assist with technical discussions during the pre-sales process.
Engineering & Documentation
  • Prepare proposals, submittal packages, and technical documentation for customer review.
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Produce compliance documentation and other project deliverables required for approval.
  • Review electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, and project specifications for accuracy.
Project Coordination
  • Support projects from order entry through manufacturing, installation, and equipment startup.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to help ensure projects remain on schedule.
  • Respond to technical questions during production, installation, commissioning, and system operation.
Customer Support
  • Provide technical guidance on power distribution systems, including Static Transfer Switches (STS) and related equipment.
  • Assist customers, consultants, and contractors with application recommendations and troubleshooting.
  • Deliver technical presentations and product training for customers, consultants, and channel partners.
  • Collect customer feedback and communicate product improvement opportunities to engineering and product development teams.
Travel
  • Visit customer locations, construction sites, and mission-critical facilities as needed.
  • Domestic travel of approximately 25% to 35% is expected.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in applications engineering, design engineering, or field engineering supporting electrical infrastructure.
  • At least 2 years of AutoCAD drafting experience.
  • Strong understanding of data center electrical systems, including:
    • UL 891 switchboards
    • Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
    • Static Transfer Switches (STSs)
    • Redundancy configurations such as N+1 and 2N
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • Electrical one-line diagrams
    • Schematics
    • Engineering specifications
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically as business needs require.
