The Applications Developer / Business Analyst is responsible for the design, development, enhancement, and support of internal business applications that power engineering, construction, and project management workflows. This position partners closely with business stakeholders to translate operational needs into scalable technical solutions, while driving automation and system integration initiatives with limited supervision. The position will be based in our Houston, Texas office located at 12031 Kurland Dr, Houston, TX 77034 and will report to Dashiell's IT Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

Design, develop, test, and maintain internal applications supporting engineering, construction, and project management teams.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and operations staff to gather requirements, analyze workflows, and propose technical solutions.

Translate business requirements into technical designs and actionable development tasks; independently own solution design decisions within scope of assigned systems.

Write, review, and optimize code using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate delivery and improve quality.

Own enhancements and bug fixes for existing systems such as project tracking, job costing, and resource planning platforms.

Design and implement automation solutions to streamline reporting, scheduling, and data management processes.

Build and maintain integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms, including ERP, project management, and field data systems.

Troubleshoot and resolve application and data issues with limited supervision; escalate complex system issues as appropriate.

Create and maintain technical documentation including system architecture, data flows, and process improvement records.

Contribute to development standards and best practices across the IT team.

Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field required; equivalent professional experience of 4 or more years may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Minimum 2 years of experience in application development and business analysis in a production environment.

Proficiency in .NET (C#, VB.NET) or similar object-oriented programming languages.

Experience with relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, or similar), including query writing, optimization, and schema design.

Solid understanding of web application architecture, APIs, and client-server systems.

Hands-on experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and building system integrations.

Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) in a professional setting.

Proficiency with Git and version control workflows including branching, pull requests, and code reviews.

Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects from concept through delivery, and manage competing priorities in a project-driven environment.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.

Effective communicator with demonstrated ability to work directly with non-technical stakeholders.

Driving is not required for this position.

Experience in engineering, construction, or project-based industries strongly preferred.

Familiarity with systems related to project management, scheduling, estimating, or job costing.

Experience enhancing and integrating enterprise or line-of-business applications.

Strong understanding of engineering, construction, or project management workflows including project lifecycle, budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning.

Familiarity with debugging, logging, and performance tuning techniques.
