What is an application quality analyst?

Application Quality Analysts are professionals responsible for ensuring that software applications meet specified quality standards before they are released to users. They design and execute test plans, identify bugs or issues, and work closely with developers to resolve problems. Their role helps guarantee that applications are reliable, user-friendly, and function as intended, minimizing the risk of defects once the software is live. They may also be involved in automating tests and improving testing processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an application quality analyst?

To excel as an Application Quality Analyst, you need expertise in software testing methodologies, attention to detail, and a background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with testing tools like Selenium, JIRA, and test management systems, along with relevant certifications such as ISTQB, is often required. Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams are crucial soft skills. These abilities are essential for identifying defects, ensuring software reliability, and supporting seamless product releases.

What are some typical challenges faced by application quality analysts when testing new software releases?

Application Quality Analysts often encounter challenges such as tight release deadlines, incomplete or changing requirements, and the need to quickly adapt to new technologies or testing tools. They must balance thorough testing with efficiency, ensuring critical bugs are identified without delaying deployment. Additionally, effective communication with developers and product managers is essential to clarify ambiguities and prioritize issues, making collaboration skills highly valuable in this role.

What is the difference between Application Quality Analyst vs Software Tester?

Job description

The Task At Hand:
Quality isn't a department here, it's a mindset - we need someone who can't walk past an out-of-spec result without wanting to know why.
Quality Analyst will report to the Director of Quality and play a key role in upholding product quality standards across JuneShine Brands product portfolio. Core responsibilities include performing routine quality checks, collecting and recording data, and executing small-scale product quality projects. Quality Analysts serve as the hands-on technical support for the Quality Department, providing flexible coverage across JuneShine Brands' entire portfolio. The ideal candidate has a keen eye for detail and takes pride in doing things right.
If this sounds like the problem-solving you want to do every day, come grow your expertise with us - and help set the bar for quality in an industry that's moving fast.
Who You Are:
  • You are science-forward and analytically inclined, with a genuine curiosity for food and beverage excellence
  • You're highly organized and self-directed, with an inherent prioritization for documentation that supports compliance, traceability, and continuous improvement
  • You're a strong communicator, able to balance ownership of your work and effective collaboration
  • You take initiative to solve problems proactively but also respond to unforeseen challenges with composure, rigor, and focus
  • You're eager to grow your skills in chemistry, microbiology, and project execution in a rapidly evolving consumer industry

What You'll Do:
  • Review and approve documentation required for finished goods release, including Certificates of Analysis (COAs), batch records, and package records, ensuring full compliance with microbiological, organoleptic, packaging, and regulatory specifications
  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation, including pH meters, autotitrators, NIR spectrometers, CO2/DO analyzers, and flow cytometers, to ensure accurate and reliable analytical results
  • Log and trend quality data across spreadsheets and quality databases, supporting data integrity and enabling proactive identification of process shifts
  • Proactively identify out-of-trend data and assist in troubleshooting quality issues, including fermentation delays, out-of-specification analytics, and sensory concerns, escalating findings as needed to support timely resolution
  • Execute microbiological testing on in-process and finished materials, including media preparation, equipment sterilization, and microbial identification, in accordance with established laboratory protocols
  • Maintain the finished product library to support internal investigations, shelf-life evaluations, and retain sample traceability
  • Perform benchtop formulations to support ingredient qualifications, quality concessions, and risk assessments, providing data-driven recommendations to cross-functional partners
  • Execute minor projects focused on quality optimization, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the Quality Department
  • Independently lead investigations in response to Quality Incidents, from root cause analysis through corrective action
  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and safety protocols to maintain a compliant and safe work environment

Must Haves:
  • Age 21 or older at the time of application
  • College degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience working in a laboratory environment within the Nutraceutical, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical or Food Manufacturing industry
  • Fundamental understanding of food & beverage manufacturing; including batching processes, in-process quality checks, equipment cleaning, GMPs, etc.
  • Familiarity with basic experimental design and execution

Nice to Haves:
  • Certifications in Food Safety, cGMP, GFSI, Quality Management, or brewing/fermentation program
  • Familiarity with hemp-derived THC beverage manufacturing and compliance

Compensation, Benefits + Perks:
Compensation:
  • $30.00 - $33.00, per hour
  • The final offer will be based on several factors, including experience, skills, location and overall expertise

  • Healthcare coverage: up to 90% company contribution for employees and 25% for dependents
  • Voluntary vision, dental, and accidental plans
  • 401(k) with up to 4% company match, free financial coaching, student loan match support, and 529 education savings accounts
  • 12 weeks of paid Equal Parental Leave, $500 Baby Bonding Bucks, and a sustainable baby gift
  • Dedicated parental leave support, including a personalized dashboard, full pay transparency, and a specialist to handle every logistical detail so you can focus on your family
