Application Engineer II

AVL Test Systems Inc. is looking for an Application Engineer II to join the Plymouth, Michigan team. This position will support AVL's testbed commissioning activities, including but not limited to engine, powertrain, emissions, battery, inverter, eMotor, and eAxleย testing.

Qualified candidates must possess a minimum ofย 3 years of relevant experience, includingย system and component levelย experience. The role requiresย expert level system knowledge and offers the opportunity to work across a broad and fast-developing portfolio of test applications.

The Application Engineer II willย design and integrate subsystems whileย commissioning test systemsย to meet complex testing requirements. In addition, the role willย troubleshoot complex problemsย andย develop effective solutions. Qualified candidates must have experience in the automotive industry, along withย strong electrical aptitudeย and hands-on troubleshooting skills.

Candidates must be able to take charge of projects once on-site and drive them to completion while working with a Project Manager to manage cost and schedule estimates. The Application Engineer II will have ownership of large, complex test systems and must demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills.

Travel:ย Approximately 40%
Location:ย Candidates should be located in theย Southeast Michiganย area.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

Roles:

  • Act as liaison and company representative with customers.
  • Commission test systems including:
  • Setup and troubleshoot test and measurement systems
  • Implement and tune complex control loops
  • Integrate auxiliary equipment into test systems
  • Setup monitoring and control of relevant safeties
  • Create commissioning documentation
  • Provide training on system applications
  • Obtain customer sign-off
  • Write and implement complex custom tests
  • Provide sales technical support.
  • Provide project engineering technical support.
  • Help desk consultation.
  • Develop and present advanced training.
  • Technical research.
  • Travel required.
  • Other tasks as assignedย

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelors' degree in engineering or equivalent
  • Master's degree in engineering or equivalent preferred
  • 3-5+ years' experience in relevant field required
  • Experience in test automation equipment preferred
  • In depth understanding of electrical and mechanical processes
  • Expertise related to testing methods and applications
  • Able to read and understand electrical and mechanical schematics and drawings
  • Strong software adaption and modification skills preferred
  • Background in testing (engine / emissions / battery / eMotor / eAxle)
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of PC operation, structure, MS Windows, and computer networking require
