Job description

Title: Sales Application Engineer

Location: Nashville, TN (Hybrid)

Position Summary

Our client, a metal forming and fabrication company serving a diverse customer base, is seeking a Sales Application Engineer. The Application Engineer serves as a critical technical interface between the company's commercial and operational teams. This role primarily supports the quoting and launch of metal stamping and metal fabrication programs, with limited support for related business units as needed based on business demand and available resources.

The position supports the quoting and launch of metal stamped, roll formed, welded, fabricated, and assembled products by evaluating customer requirements, participating in program development, and coordinating cross-functional inputs. The position is responsible for developing cost models, identifying manufacturability risks, and helping guide projects from concept through production with attention to speed, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical evaluation of RFQs, supporting quoting activities with accurate cost modeling, process routing, and feasibility assessments for metal forming and metal fabrication programs
  • Provide limited technical support to related business unit opportunities when required, based on workload and resource availability
  • Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and 3D models to develop manufacturing concepts and value-added proposals
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, operations, and commercial teams to define and align on project scope, timing, and cost
  • Assist in APQP documentation development including DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flows, and PPAP packages
  • Support launch of new programs by ensuring cross-functional readiness and timely execution of milestones
  • Maintain customer contact throughout the early stages of project development, ensuring technical needs are clearly understood and met
  • Track and manage multiple projects simultaneously using formal project management methods and CRM tools such as Salesforce
  • Utilize SolidWorks and related tools to support product visualization, layout proposals, and manufacturability reviews
  • Participate in continuous improvement of quoting tools, design standards, and project tracking systems
  • Provide technical insight and customer communication during design changes, ECRs, and process improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • 3–7 years of experience in application engineering, program management, or technical sales support
  • Prior experience in metal stamping, roll forming, fabrication, or a related manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of DFM principles and the ability to translate customer requirements into practical manufacturing solutions
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks (preferred) and familiarity with AutoCAD or similar tools
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project coordination skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to present ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Salesforce or other CRM platforms for tracking RFQs, quoting activity, and customer communications
  • Knowledge of APQP processes and document control
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and how costing, BOMs, and routings impact quoting and production
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field
