Job description

Senior Cloud IoT Applications Engineer

On behalf of our client, Dice Talent Solutions is seeking a Senior Cloud IoT Applications Engineer.

This full-time (direct hire) position located in Las Vegas, NV. Work Is performed 100% on-site.

Candidates must be able to work on our client s W2 (annual salary + benefits package). Must be permanently authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. No visa sponsorship or transfers are available. No 3rd party Corp to Corp inquiries will be considered.

Responsibilities:

Stakeholder and Team Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with the Director of Software Development, Product Management, Customer Support, and customers to understand requirements, priorities, and feedback for cloud/IOT software.
  • Participate actively in sprint planning, backlog grooming, stand-ups, and retrospectives as a member of the Cloud/IoT software team.
  • Collaborate with the software team to ensure smooth integration between edge devices and cloud services.
  • Work closely with the QA/DevOps engineer and the software team to build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines supporting automated testing, builds, and deployments.
  • Coordinate with the external development partners to evaluate and integrate cloud software.
  • Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality, consistency, and adherence to architectural standards.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical leadership and support.

System Maintenance and Compliance:

  • Monitor system health, performance, and availability of cloud and telematics services.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across cloud services and telematics data pipelines.
  • Support patching, upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance of cloud infrastructure and dependencies.
  • Perform database maintenance, including data integrity checks, backups, and performance tuning for AWS RDS and other data stores.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for application designs, APIs, and test procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in cloud and application security, including SOC 2 and ISO/IEC 27001.
  • Support periodic penetration testing and remediate identified vulnerabilities in cloud applications and services.
  • Support integration and maintenance of customer facing APIs.

Cloud & Telematics Application Development:

  • Work with external resources to design, develop, and maintain cloud and telematics software for new and existing products using Python, AWS, TypeScript, CSS, and HTML.
  • Build and maintain cloud services and data pipelines (e.g., S3, DynamoDB, Lambda) supporting fleet telematics and remote monitoring.
  • Implement telematics data ingestion and northbound connectivity using MQTT and TCP/IP.
  • Design and implement RESTful and event-driven APIs supporting fleet management and telematics use cases.
  • Ensure seamless integration between cloud services, telematics data, and edge/embedded devices.

System Integration & Testing:

  • Partner with the QA/DevOps engineer to define test coverage, release gates, and deployment strategies (e.g., blue/green, canary) for cloud services.
  • Conduct end-to-end software testing and integration using PyTest, Playwright, GitHub, and YAML.
  • Write and maintain unit, integration, and automated regression tests to validate application performance and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot pipeline and deployment issues in collaboration with the QA/DevOps engineer to minimize release friction.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in cloud architecture, IoT connectivity, and telematics.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes, tooling, and Agile practices.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on cloud application engineering.
  • Proficient with Docker, Python, TypeScript and React for cloud and application development.
  • Proficient with AWS services including S3, DynamoDB, RDS, IOT/Core, Lambda, and API Gateway.
  • Proficient designing and consuming RESTful and/or event-driven APIs.
  • Proficient with data pipelines and asynchronous processing patterns (e.g., queue/job-based architectures).
  • Proficient with automated testing frameworks such as PyTest and Playwright.
  • Proficient with SCM tools and methodologies including Git, GitHub, and CI/CD.
  • Familiar with network protocols such as MQTT and TCP/IP for IoT and telematics data ingestion.
  • Experience collaborating with external development partners or outsourced engineering teams on shared codebases.
  • Proficient with software development and debugging tools such as VS Code.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally within an Agile team.

Desired:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or similar
  • Experience with fleet telematics, ISO/TS 15143-3, or similar equipment telematics standards.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK.
  • Familiarity with OAuth 2.0 and modern authentication/authorization patterns.
  • Experience working alongside embedded/edge engineering teams on cloud-to-edge integration.
  • Familiarity with SOC 2, ISO/IEC 27001, or similar compliance frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of Agile development methodologies.

Salary:

  • The salary range for this role is $149,000 $162,000 per year, which serves as a guide for pay decisions. Final compensation will be determined by a number of factors, such as the candidate's qualifications, experience, and skills, as well as pay equity considerations.
