Job description

Application Engineer

Voigt-Abernathy is a leading distributor of engineered pumps, filtration, and process equipment with 175+ employees. We have an opening for an Application Engineer located in Birmingham, Alabama.

Summary of Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee the initial design and quotation of pre-sale engineered pumping systems based on customer specifications. To include, but not limited to:


  • Working with customers and outside salesman to gain the required system details.
  • Provide technical assistance to customers as needed.
  • Be organized, maintain sufficient records, and keep load report up to date.
  • Apply technical knowledge to properly design new pumping systems.
  • Work with vendors to source necessary project quotes.
  • Create bill of materials to determine Voigt-Abernathy project costs for accurate quoting.
  • Create drawing requests based on quoted engineered packages.
  • Check project approval drawings for accuracy based on quoted system.
  • Keep organized records of all engineered projects for company reference.

Summary of Flex Responsibilities:


  • Attend pump schools and training as required.
  • Contribute to new ideas for company continuous improvement projects.
  • Assist with inventory management as needed.
  • Assist with quality control as needed.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's in mechanical, civil or industrial engineering preferred
  • 3 years of Pump application engineering or inside pump sales experience will be considered in lieu of degree
  • Project management
  • Strong technical mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Excellent Communication skills
