This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with a minimum of three (3) days in-office based out of our West Sacramento office and two (2) days working remotely.
Summary
We are seeking an experienced and driven DevOps Software Engineer to join our dynamic technology team. Under the general direction of the Chief Technology Officer, this role supports the development and delivery of software systems by implementing DevOps best practices and contributing to the success of technical programs that serve CSBA and its members. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automation, infrastructure management, CI/CD and cloud technologies, as well as the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders; performs related duties as assigned.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Implement tools and practices to automate building, testing and deployment processes.
  • Develop and maintain automated monitoring and alerting systems to ensure application and infrastructure health.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to performance, deployment and infrastructure.
  • Enforce security best practices throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Manage and provision infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for consistency and scalability.
  • Maintain and optimize CI/CD pipelines to support reliable and frequent software releases.
  • Deploy and test software on a regular schedule, ensuring environment stability.
  • Maintain configuration standards across systems and environments.
  • Collaborate with software developers to support planning, integration and delivery.
  • Contribute to large engineering efforts involving data migration, system integration and platform improvements.
  • Identify and resolve bugs, outages and bottlenecks in coordination with development teams.
  • Lead security implementation and compliance for deployed applications.
  • Align technical work with CSBA's strategic direction, values and practices.
  • Participate in short- and long-term planning efforts for technology initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively across teams and document system configurations and decisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) to four (4) years of professional experience leading DevOps efforts and software development.
  • Strong experience in software development principles, operating systems, networking and cloud computing (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization and deployment workflows.

Knowledge of
  • Automation and orchestration tools (e.g., Ansible).
  • Security best practices in DevOps environments.
  • Scripting languages and monitoring systems.

Ability to
  • Lead and implement DevOps strategies in a collaborative, matrixed environment.
  • Maintain and manage software infrastructure, delivery, monitoring, and automation tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and effectively.
  • Document systems and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Environmental Elements & Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds, hand truck available to assist.
  • The office environment is primarily sedentary, in a controlled office environment with moderate noise levels and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed in the execution of their duties.
  • Ability to sit at computer for long periods of time and have the dexterity to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator, and operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally travel for conferences, trainings, workshops and meetings throughout California, including overnight stays.
  • Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines, instructions and policies.
  • Limited vacation during peak periods.

  • CSBA offers a hybrid work schedule, with a minimum of three (3) days in-office based out of our West Sacramento office and two (2) days working remotely.
  • Paid Time Off:
    • Vacation: Accrues 10 days annually for hourly employees and 15 days annually for salary employees. The rate at which you accrue will increase annually with years of service.
    • Floating holidays: 32 hours annually accrue date of hire.
    • Separate sick leave accrual: 8 hours accrued monthly.
    • Holiday: 10 CSBA recognized holidays annually
    • December Office Closure: During the latter part of December each year CSBA closes its office. During this time, employees are paid for 6 days in addition to the December 25 and January 1 holiday.
    • Sabbatical Program: Employees with at least seven (7) years of continuous full-time employment in their current period of service are eligible for up to four (4) weeks of paid leave.
  • Membership in the CalPERS retirement system:
    • Classic membership tier (2% @ 55; 7% employee contribution and 11.54% employer contribution)
    • PEPRA membership tier (2% @ 62; 8.25% employee contribution and 8.27% employer contribution)
