Job Description
Kavaliro is seeking a Software Developer with strong DevOps capabilities for our client to support the development and deployment of mission-critical applications within the Intelligence Community. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside a highly experienced engineering team focused on modernizing secure, highly available systems used by users across geographically distributed environments.
Pay: $180,000.00 - 190,000.00 per year
Key Responsibilities
  • Work within a small, senior-level engineering team to improve and modernize cloud-based environments supporting critical missions
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain scalable applications using containerized technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines to streamline and improve software delivery
  • Build, maintain, and optimize ETL workflows for large-scale data processing
  • Configure and support messaging and queuing platforms, including RabbitMQ or comparable technologies
  • Develop Python-based automation to simplify infrastructure management, deployments, and operational processes
  • Monitor application and infrastructure performance and identify opportunities to improve stability, scalability, and efficiency
  • Partner closely with software engineers to establish effective development, deployment, and infrastructure practices
  • Apply clean, maintainable design principles while creating concise technical documentation when needed
Required Qualifications
  • Active Top Secret (TS) clearance required; TS/SCI is preferred
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 2+ years of professional experience developing, deploying, and supporting production software
  • Strong experience working in Linux/Unix environments, preferably Rocky Linux, RHEL, or similar
  • Proficiency with Python preferred; experience with C/C++ or Java is also valuable
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm
  • Understanding of DevSecOps methodologies and secure software development practices
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or comparable platforms
  • Familiarity with AWS, AWS GovCloud, Azure, GCP, or other enterprise cloud environments
  • Experience using Git for source control and collaborative development
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills
  • CompTIA Security+ certification, or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of starting
Preferred Experience
Software Development & Architecture
  • Experience working across multiple programming languages
  • Familiarity with Python data and scientific computing libraries such as NumPy, pandas, and SciPy
  • Development of RESTful APIs and microservices using technologies such as FastAPI or Spring Boot
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications by transitioning them to containerized or microservice-based architectures
  • Understanding of application and infrastructure scaling strategies, including horizontal and vertical scaling

Data, DevOps & Cloud
  • Experience developing ETL pipelines and working with RabbitMQ or other message-broker technologies
  • Database administration, performance tuning, and optimization experience
  • Experience working in Agile development environments, including Jira and sprint-based workflows
  • Familiarity with code quality, vulnerability, and security scanning tools such as SonarQube, NexusIQ, and Trivy
  • Infrastructure-as-Code experience with Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or similar technologies
  • Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK

Certifications & Mission Experience
  • AWS DevOps Engineer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
  • Previous experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or Intelligence Community (IC) mission systems
