Job description

 Make a meaningful impact on national security by supporting the Space Development Agency (SDA) in delivering the Battle Management Command, Control, and Communications (BMC3) software development and hosting environment for the National Defense Space Architecture (NDSA). These systems accelerate the secure development, testing, and deployment of missioncritical space applications that enable Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2).
SAIC has an immediate opening for a Space Test Engineer with experience across software and hardware development, integration, operations, and maintenance for space and ground systems. This position is located in Grand Forks, ND.


We are looking for an innovative and motivated individual to serve as SAIC's onsite representative to plan and execute testing, training, maintenance, and operations of the BMC3 ground and space hardware. This includes enabling a wide range of application testing activities, supporting mission planning, and developing a strong understanding of each application's purpose and test criteria. The role involves close coordination with SDA operators, mission application developers, and the broader BMC3 ecosystem.


Primary responsibilities include:


Plan and execute testing, training, maintenance, and operation of BMC3 ground and space hardware while supporting NDSA operators at the SDA Space Network Operations Center (SNOC).
Support BMC3 DevSecOps CI/CD activities from SDA SNOCs.
Operate BMC3 ground systems and mission applications during test and operational events.
Conduct satellite onorbit application testing (formerly "Canary Operation testing").
Support SDA Operations & Integration teams and coordinate with mission application developers during anomaly resolution and system troubleshooting.
Develop and execute test plans and procedures, perform data collection and analysis, and generate test reports to support BMC3 Application Factory and software/hardware evaluations.
Provide input into labor, schedule, equipment, and software needs for test events.
Prepare and brief data packages that communicate test results and analysis to government stakeholders.
Collaborate with prime contractors and other mission partners to ensure successful test execution and integration activities.

Bachelor's Degree and nine plus (9+); Master's Degree and five plus (5+); PhD or JD and two plus (2+) years of working experience with systems engineering and test experience in space, ground, operations and sustainment segments of DoD, NSA, or NRO programs.

Proven delivery record with Systems engineering, testing, and integration experience with hardware and software systems.

Strong interpersonal skills to enable working, interfacing, and interrelating with diverse personnel and dynamic teams.  

Experienced at self-starting, seeking solutions, and works well in a team environment with excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as organizational and interpersonal skills.

Familiarity with Unix/Linux-based operating systems, including the ability to navigate, configure, and troubleshoot systems in operational environments.

Understanding of command-line tools or system monitoring, scripting, and process management.

Experience working with software repositories such as Gitlab, Nexus, or similar tools for version control, artifact management, and collaborative development.

General understanding of:

CI/CD pipelines and their role in automating application deployment.

Containerized application technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and their use in software deployment and orchestration.

Desired Qualifications:

SCI eligibility.

Advanced Degree in Science, Engineering or Math.
